Spartan

I got this one a few years ago, when I knew even less about roses than I do now. The nursery guy told me its a climber and is called Spartan. Somehow, I don't think its Spartan. It has beautiful pink blooms and a lovely scent and is moderatey recurrant after spring

Silver Jublee

I was looking for Silver Jublee. The Nursery Guys handed me this rose. When it bloomed, it turned out not to be Silver Jublee. It did not do to well either and I was planning on getting rid of it but during fall it gave a stunning display, so I kept it. It blooms a lot and regularly, in spring, summer and fall now

Fragrant Red HT

I just cannot recall it's name right now

A Harkness Rose

I have completely forgotten it's name

Climber, Painted Rose

I was looking for a particular rose when I got it. I don't think it's that particular rose and I can't even remember what was the particular rose I was looking for when I got it, but I am pretty happy to have this rose instead of that particular rose

Okay I have just gotten into a peachy phase and that Harkness rose would look so good in my garden. Someone has to recognise it, I hope.

hi, Monarda, Mine came from Pickering which no longer sells it, but it is available on the Hortico site. RU may still carry it, I don't know. It behaves like a climber with long canes. Mine does not have the blind shoots that others have complained about on helpmefind. It is vigorous and thorny. The older canes don't seem to develop the stiffness of say, New Dawn, but it is only about three years now, and it's been moved once when I realized it was going to need more room than its previous spot had. Blooms develop at the end of canes or laterals, if canes are moved horizontally. It develops a lot of bud breaks along bent canes. The blooms are beautiful and fragrant. It is not a small rose as it is about 7 feet tall and still growing. I am going to prune the laterals back a lot after the first flush and see what happens. It is very disease resistant here. I think it would be best grown as a climber with the canes grown laterally. I had no idea what this rose would develop as here. I thought it might be a tall stiff hybrid tea, but it is not that at all. It is a climbing rose. How large it is actually going to be I am not sure. It is not in the best spot now and will probably have to be moved again so it can spread out more than it can now.

Hi guys, :o) it's time to update this thread! The work is still in progress, a few Roses are still waiting to be planted, and some architectural detail need to be completed, but in a few weeks all should be done! Here's some pictures to share with you the work in progress :o) I've started by the end of April, planting the very first roses, even if nothing of the hardscaping work was done :oP There where still the giant cardoons that I was going to uproot by the end of June. (The blooming rose to the right is the Wichurana Rambler 'Paul Noel') I keep on planting all the summer long, step by step, working very early in the morning (it was SO hot!!), and by the end of August nearly all the Roses have been in place - A bad picture prom the North side of the (shapeless) walk By the end of September, with a more pleasant, fresh air and a couple of showers, we have started with the path, steps and a few other architectural details... A picture with my father in the background, to better show proportions. The path seems to be larger than necessary, but this is to allow the roses and perennials to spread out in the path. By October, two big Moroccan jars have been placed making a striking focal point at each end, The North side (I've planted a Rosemary hedge behind it to hide the back structures and to make a "firm" background) And the South side... In November, some Roses where in flower (Gloire de Rosomanes and 'Souvenir de la Malmaison' in the foreground, with green flowered Chrysanthemums (...how many weeds to pull out...!) The last picture I've take, a few days ago. Note the chipped leaves of the Olive Tree to cover the path, and the steps leading to the small vegetable garden. I can't tell what it is, if it's clear then it's not mealies. But the stuff on the plant looks white, so maybe a better pic would help. I don't think mealies are that bad, actually. While I don't like chemicals, there are systemics that will clear them up fairly quickly. I don't see them very often and I stay on top of that kind of thing. I'll sometimes unpot a plant and spray the whole thing, roots and all, with a fine, hard spray from the garden hose. Have to be sure to get down in the space where the petiole attaches to the stem. But that usually does the trick.

I can't remember not gardening, but have been gardening here for 20 years, however, the garden is new. For the first 17 yrs. or so, we had deer, and my roses never got more than a foot tall. I planted small ones, large ones, and climbers all close together because I knew none would ever get very large. Sometimes, they were only a few inches tall. I was crazy to keep buying roses, but I had succumbed to whatever it is that keeps us all doing this. I saw very few buds and almost never a bloom. I used every deer deterrent, commercial and homemade, known to man. Those first roses go back 20 years. Three years ago, I got wise and installed deer fencing - the only deterrent that works here. Those old roses absolutely burst with new growth and everything was too close together and climbers had nowhere to climb. We've expanded the garden a lot since then, and the second half of my roses are all new, 3 year olds or newer. I had always wanted enough roses to cut for the vase and to give big, luscious bouquets to friends, and now I can do that, but it's still hard for me to cut them. I think they look best on the bush. And, as others have said, thank goodness for these forums. There is always something new to learn.

Your last rose looks a lot like Old Master. But, OM is a floribunda not a climber. The yellow gold one looks like Easy Goin, the sport of Living Easy.

Could the first one be Our Lady of Guadalupe?
Could the next rose be Fame?
The last one looks a little like Priscilla Burton,which is a climber for me. But I don't think it is.

Just love the color of the bright pink rose
(the not the Silver Jubilee one)

And that Harkness rose, I too have a thing for peachy apricot roses, and like Liane, it sure would look good in my garden. Look at the ruffles on it! Just Gorgeous.

The red fragrant HT is Crimson Glory. I had the name on the tip of my tongue but just could not recall it earlier. The rest are all a mystery
