Croton Flower: What Now?
Comments (107)Hi Russ, I'm interested in Dayspring, Tiger Eye, Victoria Golden Bells, and Rams Horn. What town do you live in? Here is a list of what I have. The ones with the asterisk next to it means they are not quite ready for cuttings (they are the ones I just got a few months ago). As you can see not a lot of them are ready to take cuttings of yet, maybe this summer? Also, Do you know about the Croton Encyclopediai on the palmpedia site? http://www.palmpedia.net/wiki/CROTON_ONLINE_REFERENCE Eleanor Roosevelt -I have a full plant to trade or you can have it Franklin Roosevelt Magnificent Fred Sander* Pictoratum Fantasia Robert Lavalois Fantastic- I think I have a full plant to trade or you can have Dreadlocks Mango- Not sure why, but this has no orange, more of salmon color Congo* Rudy Bachman* Irresistible* Johanna Coppinger Rubii* Maryland* Yellow Fondue Fishbone Yellow Petra Mona Lisa* Geisha Girl* Victory* Playboy* Mosaic* Madam Butterfly* Pink Eburnum* Sybil Griffin* Pitcarin* Philadelphia* Cornbread* Gonzales* Pie Crust* Connie Cutler* Goldfinger Acbaefolium Mrs. Snyder Disraeli* Cutlers Gulfstream* Cornelius Halgrim* Major Dade* Prince Philip* Davis #1* Veitchii* and a couple that I’m not sure of the names...See MoreAglaonema rescue
Comments (168)Atthetop, winter isn't a good time to try rooting in soil. You might check the cutting daily, if leaves turn yellow and the stem turns 'rubbery' from loss of moisture, simply put it in water in a bright place until spring. If there are leaves on the bottom half of the cutting, take them off and put the stem in water up to about half of it's length. It should produce roots and will be fine until warmer weather. Do you know which aglaonema you have? If you're interested in knowing, post a pic here and we can try to identify it. Good luck, Russ...See Morepropagation
Comments (255)In case I have been confusing... The little pot with polka-dots is only about an inch tall and wide. They are from propagating a 'Moonshine' leaf. Evidence that the cultivar can only be reliably increased by root division/waiting for pups, and that underpotting can reliably retard growth. The propagated yellow-edge leaf and its' 2 plain & 1 albino pup was in a 4" pot. And yes, the albino/yellow one finally shriveled away a few months ago. I tried to track it in 1 discussion but I don't see the post-mortem post on that here so it must be in another discussion. The 2 healthy-looking, normally-colored pups are in the ground somewhere now until cold threatens again....See Moreany Idea what my name is?
Comments (23)I like rereading threads every once in a while. You pick up things you missed and are reminded of things you forgot. Oh, and the bundle of straw line is from the story of Job in the Qur'an. While he was undergoing years of hardship, his wife wanted to sell her hair to get money for food for him. This was the whispering of doubt in faith to the wife and Job warned her against it saying,"if you give into temptation I will beat you with 100 (or 1000?) Lashes (hey they were brutal in the day....still are some places). So when the wife gave in, God gave him the mercy of only using a handful of straw so that Job would not break his covenant (when he swore he would do something) nor harm his wife for only trying to take care of him. You guys probably don't care... But now you can use the handful of straw thing anytime someone threatens you with violence........See Morelaticauda
