my peppers are rotting from the inside out

all of my peppers that are starting to turn or are already ripe are rotting from the inside out what might be the cause of this and how can I fix it.I have been waiting for them to start to ripen for a long time and it is finally here and there are more rotted peppers than good ones. any suggestions?

"rot" could mean anything. a pic is worth a thousand words.

could be blossom end rot
could be insects boring into the seed pod causing it to rot
could be ??

My first thought was either pepper maggots or europeon corn borers but more info and/or a pic would be nice.

Hi, I came across your page and I'm very interested in if other readers have a solution to my problem apart from myself going back to the store to tell them what is happening. My wife bought some pears from Woolworths here on the Gold Coast,Queensland,Australia which were very hard and of a green color. We have a very temperate sometimes high humid semi tropical climate 20-28deg during the day most times of the year and in just about all cases with fruit after purchasing it we leave it on the dining room table to ripen in 2-4days. The only time we use the refrigerator is to hold the fruit in a ripen state. With this last batch of pairs they were firm on the outside and of a good yellow color but when cut open were all brown and mushy. I'm sorry I can not tell you what variety they were or where they came from because the "bastards" don't either know or don't want to tell you anyway...knowing them probably China !! Maybe I go back and buy some more pears put them straight in the refrigerator and see what happens. Either way I would be interested in what other people suggest. Many thanks, Rud

Bites from the Brown Mamorated Stink Bug have caused spots and rot on some of my ripening peppers. Look up photos of the damage they do and compare. it is difficult to make out in the pictures, but soft spots on peppers could be 1) Blossom End rot 2) sunscald 3) pepper maggots. Most common cause for me is sunscald. If it is sunscald then it will get worse so it should be picked soon. You don't say where you are located but if you are getting hot weather like much of the country lately you might want to rig up something that will shade the plants and fruit from the hot afternoon sun. Many times peppers will not have enough leaves to protect the fruit on the outer most part of the plants.

A picture would help greatly. It could be Blossom End Rot. It ravaged my tomato yield for a month. I lost 50+ tomatoes (all my yield). However, plants usually grow out of this condition after a while and the fruit is OK. It takes 3-4 weeks. It is due to inconsistent watering patterns just like we've experiened in SE Michigan this summer.

It also could be a variety of insect pests. Many on this forum should be able to help diagnose it with a picture. I finally am starting to get a ton of C. Annuums to ripen. Nothing yet on the C. Chinense front yet, but pod set has picked up remarkably.

Good luck. I know how much work it is to grow them and then the irritation of losing them to pests / environmental conditions. Thanks goodness we're not farmers, right?

I do believe that this is a pepper maggot is there any hope for my plants or should i throw in the towel for this year?
