Lorabell sent me a terrific homemade Christmas card and her favorite heirloom seeds for the Secret Santa Exchange. I planted her special green eggplant seeds right-away and they've already sprouted! Thank you so much!

As part of the Secret Santa Swap, I received a beautiful homemade card from Lorabell. I love that poem! The specially made seed packet was so cute, and I can't wait to try the Black Russian Kale, Corbaci and Golden Treasure Peppers, and the Lime Sorbet and Barlow columbine. Thank you!

Hi all, I'm behind again. I've got 2 days worth of cards to list. From foreverrecyclereuse I received round cantaulope,Broccoli and Grand Rapids lettuce. jas.il sent poppies, chives and Buttercrunch lettuce. Panhandle_seed_swap sent a huge package of foxgloves, I would love to plant each one of them. Tularosa Market melon. Dirt Daddy sent a mother lode. There's moneymaker tomato, White lisbon onion, marigold mix, lettuce mix, Super beefsteak tomato, evergreen long white bunching onion, gourmet blend lettuce, bibb lettuce, Aunt Gertie's gold tomato, German Johnson tomato, Abe Lincoln tomato, and Rutgers tomato. Nikkineel sent a wonderful card with a snowman. I received Castor beans, echinacea cheyenne spirit, Cannibals tomato and zinnia swirls. jhgarden9 sent marigolds, Korean melon, and cucumbers. smitties sent sea holly and sombrero echinacia. and last but not least, roper 2008 sent red barn tomato, pink poppy and red and yellow speckled marigold. Potting up a rooted rex leaf

I agree with Harawlins on this. What I would do is get a lettuce container or any small square or rectangular plastic container from the grocery store, place an inch or two max of potting mix in the bottom half, make a furrow about half an inch deep and lay your stem in it with the leaf sticking out. Forgot to say back fill over the stem. This should produce plantlets at the cut end and at the leaf (this part will be sticking out of the soil but as it produces more leaves then push it down in contact with the soil so it can develop roots too). Do not over-water the container soil though. If already moist then that may be all you need to begin with. Put the lid on and place under lights or near a sunny window. If it starts to dry out some, add a little water. Once your plant has some size then you can start venting it more and more until the lid is completely removed. You can eventually pot it up when you feel like it then. Here are a few of my cuttings in large trays, lettuce keepers, etc. Most in this pan are Immense cuttings that I started in November. I have a couple canes in there along with a rhizome of Bashful Bandit. The two little pots are of fern spores (I typically put a plastic lid over this tray). Most are Red Umbo leaves that I removed from the mother plant due to their ugliness. Had a couple spare leaves and a spare pot with no plant in it so... Ok, this next one is ugly but it just shows you can reuse old Jiffy pellets and the roots of this Zaida leaf have penetrated the mesh liner and looking for moisture and food perhaps. Once you get some size on them then you can move them up to a bigger pot - I'm using 3 inch pots in this photo. Here is an example of a strawberry container used to start a leaf of Alligator Alley And another deeper container with two Freddie plants, a maidenhair fern from a spore, and a variegated watermelon peperomia. These begonias were not from leaf but rather small plantlets from the mother since the mother was quickly dying. After the begonias started growing, they eventually pushed the lid off. These are about a year old now.

Thank you Margo!! Finally packing up prizes and such for August swaps and it's GREAT to see someone using a gift you've sent. Made my day! I didn't pop in on your hummingbird question on the other thread as I have a couple of Anna's (they're the hardiest) that overwinter here - or at least do until there's a few snow storms. I'd keep feeding until you don't see one for a week or two - you might get stragglers who stayed close to feeders migrating late.

Lorabell is a kind hearted soul.

I had missed out on an offer for some Daylily seeds that a member was offering for postage. I was bummed because one of the seeds the poster was offering was a daylily with the name Debby in it. I lost my best friend Debby to cance and wanted to add it to her memorial garden. I was very surprised when Lorabell emailed an offered not only to send the seeds to me but she didn't want anything in return.
THANK YOU Lorabell, these are a perfect addition to her garden!

Lorabell (Laura) sent me a Happy Holidays greeting card with two red cardinals on the front card with not one, not two, but THREE tomato seeds baggies of Cherry tomatoes "Blue Berries", Sungold Select II "Cherry Tom", and Blond Kopfchen "Little Blond Girl" tomatoes. Laura was extrreeeemely generous in her trade with me. I got a beautifully packed box of a a wonderful variety of new-to-me begonias. All were well labeled and securely packed. Her communication was excellent. She paid more in postage than I would have wanted her to. :/ Laura, I hope you like what I sent you because your box was my early Christmas! :)
