Need help in South Florida

I have a black thumb but love the plumeria flowers so I bought cuttings from QVC. I followed the directions and planted them in pots - they got some leaves then lost the leaves and looked like bare sticks. So I planted them in the ground -- they started to grow like crazy and I was thrilled when they flowered all summer. Now the leaves have yellowed and crinkled and are falling off - they have grown to about 3-4 feet high but they have branched every which way - is this normal? Am I supposed to "shape" them? How - I finally got them to bloom and they looked so pretty, I do not want to hurt them. Any advice would be welcomed.
