So what does everyone do with their Nagas and Savinas?

I have some Naga's and Savinas growing and need some ideas of how to use them. What do you guys do?

Are you familiar with jalapeno poppers? Well....naga poppers and Savina poppers. OK, I'm kidding, but someone would try it!

I turn mine into powders and sprinkle on food.

I too am new to all this and struggling to learn what needs to be learned for this to work. My biggest challenge is that some of my plants don't look good (I'd say 6-8 of my 28 are in some level of disrepair or desperation), and I *know* they don't look good, but I don't have the ability yet to look at a plant and based on its condition say "Ah, yes, bugs." or "Needs fertilizer" or "too much water" or "too little water". Man, it'd be so great if there was one site with pics of each problematic condition a pepper could have. I had aphid infestation, and I got rid of those, but then it rained every day for a month, and the damage looks similar...LOL Anyway, like you I was getting lost and overwhelmed by the whole fertilizer thing. Then a guy who works at a very successful and major nursery here (DeBaggios) said, just use TomatoTone, period. at transplant time and then once every three weeks, another tablespoon full in a circle around each plant. Seems pretty easy. I guess we'll find out if it works.

Allison, I love the pictures I have seen of your house, care to share more? The stone is awesome, someday I hope to build our retirement home using stone out in the country, but alas, to me lving in the country means snakes... just hate the thought of being surprised by one. We lived in town and the neighbors snakes infested our yard, memories of enjoying a walk in my yard barefoot and then seeing them slither away (just icky!) It's been two years and its still too fresh to think about that again! Oops, forgive me for straying on that thought (and this thread), this board has been so slowy lately since, well you know....so I don't think I will get in trouble for straying. Seven pets, you are my kind of woman! My DH has limited us to four pets with fur, can't say I blame him. Can you place some kind of "memory garden" for your pets at your new house? Maybe that is something you can incorporate into your landscaping plans to honor their memory at your new home. I know how special pets becomes and how hard it is when they are gone...building something special in honor of them may make it a little easier.

From A retailers perspective...When it comes to Jenn Aire it's all about the following 1) End of year rebate. 2) Profit up front. 3) Commission for sales people. And possibly hitting targets so they can keeping the line next year. Try to find a store / sales person who wants to help "YOU THE CUSTOMER" to select whats right for you. A free dishwasher means squat if you buy appliances you don't want or don't have the features or abilities you want.

Those English kitchens are stunning and a bit severe. (Did you notice the ones without range hoods? Yikes.) I think the short splashes work in those kitchens because of a few reasons. They're English. ;) They all have inset and painted cabs. The counters aren't quartz or granite (or at least the handful I looked at weren't.) The bs strip is shorter than the builder-grade 4" strip Deeageaux must think of. When I think of throwing up a 4" strip of counter material on a remodeled 1960-2000 kitchen without the period reference mentioned by MCMesprit, I agree with Dee in most cases. IMHO, it's dated and looks prefab. I'm also not a big fan of how it breaks up the small area between counter and uppers. It puts a pretty noticeable horizontal line across the room, and you then have to add another element, usually paint, to fill the gap between 4" strip and uppers. It usually looks busy to me. As I get older, I'm getting fussier about my spaces being busy. I need simple, clean, quiet lines and surfaces. Thats just me. :) With a busy quartz and you being overwhelmed, I suggest keeping the bs tile very simple. No pattern. Also, you don't have to pick a tile this week, do you? Take your time and relax. Browse kitchens on the Finished Kitchen Blog or design websites like Houzz and Decor Pad to get a sense of what you like. For example, do you like tiles that pull a darker or lighter color from your counter?

I made a few seasonings with my Nagas last year, and a couple of sauces that lasted a night. This year I will be making a naga, Trinidad & 7-Pot seasoning

Clarify what? :) C. Chinense and sweet things go together like bread and butter. Red Savina is one of my favorites becauase to me, it has a pretty neutral flavor. Orange habs are very fruity, and the brown habs are a bit more savory. At least to my pallet.

Habs, to my taste, go best with very sweet things. Someone needs to make Red Savina lollipops. :) Ancho, chipotle, cayenne, and the like go very well with dark chocolate.

Sweet and hot go very well together. Seriously! :)

I just made a batch of jelly with my Savinas. DELICIOUS. I used the recipe on the inside of the Certo box. It's just Apple Juice, Sugar, Vinegar, Certo, and Sweet Red Savinas. It's really good on buttered toast or with cream cheese on crackers. They are also good for a hot mustard with fresh mango. I love the flavor of the Savinas.

shelbyguy, I'm growing habs for the first time this year and you've definitely given me some food for thought. If I can't take the heat otherwise, I'll try your blueberry muffins but I just can't wrap my head around the banana muffins. lol Thanks for "clarifying".

The Habanero Poppers idea was just tried out by a co-worker except he used Fatalis from plants I raised. He said they were absolutely scorching and was not able to eat them :)

I've done stuffed habs with the orange, chocolate, and carribean reds. Stuffed with cream cheese, cheddar, black forest ham and a splash of lime juice. Mix in a bowl and put in the fridge for 24 hours. Take out the next day and halve the peppers. Stuff and bake until the cheese begins to melt. I think the baking turns the heat down a bit, or it might be that they are filled with cheese. I wouldn't recommend these unless you have a high tolerance.

Also I chop them and mix them in with burger meat (or simply top the burger, but mixing it in is better). Slice em and top your pizza. I've sliced one up and added it to my crock pot spaghetti sauce with meatballs. The only limit is your imagination and heat tolerance. =P
