Hi Luxrosa, I live only a few miles from you---in the hills on the Berkeley-Oakland border--- so conditions are pretty similar. Perle d'Or is the champion Poly in my yard. La Marne and, of course, The Fairy, also are healthy and do well. Cecile B. (spray) does a little too well and immediately outgrew its' space. Leonie Lamesch and Lady Anne Kidwell are too new in the ground to judge but I have high hopes for them. My favorite clean Teas are Maman Cochet--she's growing into a HUGE plant but I like her that way--and the lovely Lady Hillingdon. Other Cochets, Niles and Mrs. WR Smith are very healthy. Also Mlle. de Sombrueil,and, so far, Etoile de Lyon. Madame Berkeley is not bad, just a touch of PM from time to time. B. de Snoy outgrew her early mildew vulnerablity, just a s Jeri described. (I'm salivating for the Arcadia Louisiana Tea.) Here's the weird part---I've been enabled into many wonderful and very healthy roses by JeriJen and Berndoodle who are not only awesome rosarians but both live in microclimes that share many characteristics with my own. They both report Mons. Tiller and Rosette Delizy as absolutely clean machines but for me they were/are mildew nightmares. I couldn't believe my eyes and even resorted to 3 in 1. No discernible improvement. After nearly three years in the ground they looked like Christmas decorations. When I noticed a couple of nearby Austins (!) blooming grandly and putting them to shame I relegated them to the pot ghetto. I'm wondering if it's a case of different clones, wrong care or ??? I have a nice C. pepo acorn 'White Swan' pollinated by an Atlantic Giant from the C. maxima species. This interspecific cross now is double the size and four times in weight compared to the mother fruit. I do not know about diversification of F1, but I will select the smallest and the biggest ones to breed two lines then in 2016: a market fruit with about 10 lbs. and a variety to enlarge unlimited. I could give you seed for the 2017 season of this white squash then. My little white winter squash C. maxima 'Ute white' grows like the Turk's Turban with Turban and a segmented dumpling in front. This tiny little 2#er grows pure white but matures light grey, as you can see at the picture below. I have many blue pumpkins and squash bred from New England Blue, Bleu de Hongrie, New Zealand Blue, Triamble and Blue Banana. Here I have to wait a year for differentiation of varieties. Since I would have to pay the fright across the Atlantic plus customs declaration, I think that we might change a little more seed for 2016 but not not now. So you could test Ute Indian from rareseeds now, which grows a little more grey with a light green background: http://www.rareseeds.com/ute-indian-squa/ stay in touch

Sue, I did receive your private message and just responded. You are right on. I can not read the message in my email because with HOUZZ it is sent as a "private message". My private email only tells me that somone has sent me a HOUZZ message, thus I have to sign in to HOUZZ to read it .........On GW, we were sending an "email", thus I could read the message in my email.. Hello o o o o Annie, is anybody home???? This is what I say when something is so obvious and I don't figure it out....LOL!!! Email vs private message....kind of basic!!!! (Click on my name to see what I mean.) ADDITIONALLY you will not be able to see your OWN message link on YOUR page, so you might ask that someone message you or let you know if they see it. ADDITIONALLY , you will probably want to turn on getting email alerts whenever you get a new message. Today I received from Phyllis a humorous penguin card and a kewl bunch of seeds for this year's "2014 Secret Santa Seed Swap." Thanks bunches, Phyllis! Phylis was the first person to welcome me after I posted to the GardenWeb seed exchange. She gave me lots of useful information about the Newbie Seed Program and Tomotaville. Phylis also sent me seeds for several rare tomato and pepper cultivars. She is very helpful and extremely generous. Thank you so very much Phylis for your kindness.
