Solomon's Seal is an amazing plant! There are two key ways to propagate the plant: from seed, and root separation. Under a normal time frame, it is best to sow the seeds of the Solomon's Seal in august, when the seeds are collected. This will give them a very natural incubation period. Also, this is when root divisions should be made.

In your case (wanting to start them early), the seeds can be soaked in warm water for about an hours. After they are thoroughly soaked, place the seeds in a plastic bag containing a mix of perlite and vermiculite (some people prefer to use sphagnum moss.) Add a small amount of water to the bag, squeeze out any air in order to reduce rot, then place the bag in the refrigerator for about two months. After that time, take the seeds and sow them in a pot in a sunny, warm location. Maintain a humid environment, and you should see germination shortly after!

Just the information I was looking for. Thanks a bunch. I just harvested the seeds from the little grape like fruits today and I have cleaned them all off. I will start the stratification process with some peat tomorrow or this weekend.

I also dug up and divided the root (Rhyzome) from the original plant today and replanted in three separate spots about a foot apart. You say it should have been done in August: OOOPS. Same with the seeds. I guess I didn't think it much mattered as long as I got them before freeze up. I hope it all works out and I will try to remember to keep updating this thread as time goes on. Do you have any Idea how long it takes the seeds to germinate once they are planted in a starter container with potting mix?
