Are these ready to be transplanted outside?????

I have eight frangipanis that I rooted from 14" cuttings. I removed all but the atypical leaf(s), allowed them to callus for 10 days, applied a root hormone to the bottoms, and shallowly planted one inch deep in mixture of peat and perlite on August 20th. Since the leaves started to develop, I placed them in full sun and increased watering. Are they ready to be permanently planted in my yard outside of the pots? Today is 9/22.

It has only been one month,they seem to have some nice leaves developing, but after only one m onth are the roots established enough to transplant? also, any transplant tips would be helpful. I live in SW Florida Zone 10.

Sounds like they're ready to go to me. Being in zone 10 you shouldn't have to worry about frost. But just to be safe I'd leave em in pots till next spring, and then plant them outside as you wish. As far as posting pictures goes, you can get a free account with photobucket at www.photobucket.com and once you upload your photos to your new account. All you have to do is copy and paste the line under the photo you want to share that says "HTML Code" into your message box here and there you are. good luck with your plants and your pictures.

curious, why did you plant them so shallow? did you lay them on their sides?

I too have roots growing through my peat pellets. I am in MI so I know it's way too soon to put outside. Do I need to transplant into a bigger pot? If so I am out of luck as my window ledge isn't big enough. Also my "giant" sunflower seeds are growing nicely if not crooked and curved. What should I do about them, will the stems straighten once outside? Thanks

If the pots are already breaking down, it sounds like they're staying pretty damp. Can you lighten up on the watering a bit? Just enough to keep give the plants enough water, but not so the pot is soaked? Also, make sure that the pots never sit in water or on something that is constantly damp (like a wicking mat). If you're not running a fan over your seedlings already, you might try that, too. Moving air will help to dry out the pots a bit..........Usually the problem with peat pots is that they DON'T break down, LOL!, even after they're planted out in the garden.....By the way, you are talking about *pots*, yes, not the netted pellets?.......Good luck!!

Looks like the seedlings are inside, so I'd go with not enough light - coming from the side - and making them lean. I guess your comment on cutting the leaves refers to the usual practice of trimming fans before transplanting, yes this only needs to be done if the rhizomes have been removed from the soil and have lost roots in the process. When I separate seedlings which have grown together ( I use 1 gallon pots or 4" pots) I put the whole mass into a water bath to make it easier to separate the roots. Then the seedlings are planted out immediately and shaded if the weather is really hot... That's another reason to move them out in the Spring.

I would not plant them outside until late April or May. Morning glories will die with only a little frost. If you have to put them outside, give them some protection until late April. Believe me, they will grow like crazy with the first warm weather. In June you won't be able to stand near them without worrying that the tendrils might hook onto your arm and grow there.
