Clear containers for rooting

Hi All,

I have been rooting some fig cuttings in clear, 2-liter, soda bottles. The bottles are kept in the tray they are shipped in and in the a shady spot. I remember reading that clear containers should be wrapped because the UV from the light will hamper root growth. My question is this:

If this is true that the light will stop the growth of the root, dose this not have the same effect as a perforated pot air-pruning the roots? In other words, if the root stops growing out and around (for whatever reason) does this encourage more roots to grow from the cutting? And would it be advantageous to give them a bit more light to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance,

~james
