Oh, great! Three different answers. LOL Am I thinking about this wrong? Missing some principle or reality? Here's what seems logical to me: SUMMER: Cool air is blown out of the floor registers on the south side of the room. The cool air tends to stay low. If I open the lower air return on the north side of the room, it sucks the cool air across the floor -- leaving hot air in the upper half of the room. If I open the upper air return on the north side of the room, it sucks the cool air up across the room, cooling most of the room. WINTER: Warm air is blown out of the floor registers on the south side of the room. The warm air tends to stay high. If I open the upper air return on the north side of the room, it sucks the already risen warm air across the ceiling. If I open the lower air return on the north side of the room, it sucks the heated air down through the room, resulting in warm air more evenly dispursed in the room. Were I to open both upper and lower air returns, the balancing of air supply and return suction would be lost, right? Isn't there supposed to be a balance between supply and return that keeps a flow going? (The suction through a single open return is stronger than that through two? The two air returns are served by a single duct.))

Unfortunately, once a thread drops off the list it never comes back to the list. If it's a thread that's had a post since at least late-2007 and you've bookmarked it, you can link to it directly. Anyone who's bookmarked it and retrieves it can post to it, but it still won't jump back onto the list. The post will be there, but the thread is still missing in action! So, my advice to you and everyone else is...if you want to save a thread for later reference, bookmark it or save it to your local machine! One caution: If someone deletes or moves their pictures that were posted in the thread and you only bookmarked it, you will lose those pictures when you retrieve the thread later. To be sure you save everything, you really need to save the thread to your machine. Note that later posts won't show up in the saved thread b/c you've saved it at a specific point in time. Future posts won't be there...but, you can always re-save it. Once you save the thread to your machine, all pictures are saved with it. How do you do this? There are a couple of ways that most people use. Saving the thread "as is" from your browser: From Firefox: Go to the Menu Bar (File Edit View History Bookmarks Tools Help) Click File Select Save Page As... The file name will default to the msg#.html (in the case of this message, it defaults to msg0322471215999.html) Click the Save button In Internet Explorer: Go to the Menu Bar (File Edit View Favorites Tools Help) Click File Select Save As... The file name will default to the - Kitchens Forum - GardenWeb.mht (in the case of this message, it defaults to Buehl, Q for you re missing posts - Kitchens Forum - GardenWeb.mht) Click the Save button Note: In both cases you can save to a different File Type by clicking the "Save as type" drop down menu and selecting another type. Saving the thread in an MS Word document or similar: Open a new/empty MS Word (or other) document Select the entire thread using one of the following: Click the keys [Note: This will select the entire page, including the GW header & footer.] ......OR...... Using the mouse, select whatever part of the thread you wish to save by clicking & dragging. I usually start with the subject line of the Original Post and drag to the end of the last post. Copy the selection by using the keys Paste what you just copied into the MS Word (or other) document [Note: In most Microsoft products, the paste keys are ] Save the document using whatever name you like [Note: In MS Word, click File and select Save As...] A note about much older threads.... Prior to 2008, when a thread fell off the thread list (i.e., fell off of page 67), the thread was lost forever unless you had saved it down to your machine. Even when bookmarked, the thread was gone. If you tried to retrieve it using your bookmark, you received a page that said "Missing File". Occasionally you could find it using a Google search...but...

I really don't know why I didn't think of this earlier... about storing all member photos on the FKB server. I guess I figured it out be outrageously expensive to host all the photos. But the cost of storage has gone down tremendously (an extra 20GB on picasaweb costs only $5 per year), and I am making small change from the ads on the FKB. So it's definitely do-able. I replied back to gellchom with a message similar to this. Please feel free to mention this when you send out your emails (although it's probably too late for most of you). Sample email: There are a couple of options for getting your photos back onto the FKB. Option#1: Upload your kitchen photos to one of the online photo management applications (photobucket, flickr, picasa, etc.). Remove password-protection from your kitchen album or members will not be able to view your photos. Email the link to me. (Many members choose this option because they like managing their own photos.) Option#2: Email all your kitchen photos directly to starpooh and she will upload them onto the FKB's photo album. Her email address is: starpooh@gmail.com. They will be put into a separate folder (similar to outwest's kitchen): http://picasaweb.google.com/starpooh. If, in the future, you decide to remove your photos from the FKB just send an email to starpooh and she will take care of it. (Some members are choosing this option because they don't want to worry about keeping track of their kitchen photos. They also do not need to worry about password-protecting their personal photos.)
