So proud of my Celadine!/cutting gone AWOL

Ok, I now know from what I have learnt in these past few weeks since joining the 'Garden Webbers', mine must be the commonest type of plumie on earth, but I bet there aren't(apart from Hazel, aka 'Felixcat' that is, who also lives in the Midlands area of the UK) many folks round here with one?! I am really proud of it!! Do the rest of you that live in the Americas etc, realise just how LUCKY you are to be able to come across these plants as easily as you do?

Daughter no 2 returned from Hawaii early yesterday, and tells me that she and her brother had got me a pink plumie cutting as a pressie!! (all perfectly above board I might add) My hopes were then dashed as I was told it was secreted safely in the depths of little bro's rucksack, which had myteriously vanished en-route from Honolulu/LA/New York where he is until his return to the UK on Thursday. Great. Not only has my cutting gone AWOL, but poor son is without a stitch of clothing apart from what he was wearing of course, and has nothing at all other than a case load of bikinis, bras and thongs belonging to his sister which he was bringing home for her as she had too much baggage!! LOL!!Lets hope his rucky and my precious cutting is reunited with him soon!

Meanwhile here is a picture of my beautiful little plumie again in the g/h in our back garden, sorry but I do like it! and hope you do too!

Greenclaws, I do consider myself fortunate, but may I add that you have one beautiful plumeria there, and one spectacular view, from what I can see. So, you too are truly blessed! Sorry to hear your plant went AWOL, that is terrible. I was blessed again as our secretary from work just got back from Hawaii and brought me one of the cuttings they sell in the airport. If it were bigger, I'd cut it in half and send you part. But once again, very nice plumie you have there.

Thanks Frank, more great advise from you . . . as always. Gonna jump right to that. Every little thing I can do to help them along. That sure is a stunning flower !! From a leaf to that in just 5 months. . . WOW ! Could you please read my reply to your comment about the lop-sided plant. Was wonderin if I could remove longer, older, bigger leaves now while in bloom. Minimac, thank you for the praise. Posting pics isn't hard, and I would love to see what you have. Yes those AV's from my clients house are still hangin in there, still bloomin. I did notice the other day that they were standing in water, she musta decided to water them for a change. I did dump the water out of them, I swear she is so neglegent when it comes to her plants, and yet they seem to preform for her (flower) nothing spectacular when it comes to the main plant. She has a sunroom full plants that I'd love to get my hands on. Her 5 hoyas are so dry that if you blew into the pot you'd cause a dust storm, and they all bloom!!! But the leaves are whithered, pale and straggley. She has two huge ponytail palms that could be beautiful if only. . . a little tlc. Ya I think you're probably right about wicking the AV's. I may do it just for convience sake. I use a piece of panyhose, that's what my gramma did, so that's what I did. I may even wick the mammas. Still can't believe they are doing so well in a bright north window, but they are. I'll be sure to post when the leaves get their mouse ears, and when my babies have flowers.

To reply to the question in the initial post in this thread... I start my pumpkins just before a stretch of forecast sunny warm weather in late May. I sprout the seeds indoors kind of like bean sprouts... put them in a plastic tub like an old sour cream container, cover with a j-cloth held on with a rubber band, then wet and drain the seeds several times per day. At a constant indoor temp of 20 or 22 degrees they usually start to sprout in 2-4 days (might take longer if your seeds are old and some varieties take longer than others). So I set up my jars about 3 days before a forecast stretch of warm weather, then the just-sprouted seeds are ready to plant when the warm weather hits. For the first month or so I grow them under mini-greenhouse tents (about 6' long by 3' wide, almost like rowcovers but different, they were sold by Vesey's some years ago). I keep them under the mini-greenhouses until they fill them up, usually by late June, then I remove the cover and let them grow in the open. When they start to bloom, I hand-pollinate until I'm good and sure the bees have found the flowers. Sounds like an effort I guess, but I quite enjoy fussing over them, so it's more fun than anything else.

Cuttings that have been through 5-10 weeks of rooting and have produced leaves before and then gone dormant are now rooted plants. As soon as they show the change of color in the tips or begin to show claws that will become leaves you give them water and food. Epsoms salts or sulpomag will give the plant sulphur and magnesium to get started generating leaves (spray n grow will also do this I believe). Water as a drench and let it dry for days. In a week give it a half dose of fertilizer and then next interval full. Products like spray n grow, superthrive or seaweed extract add micronutrients and improve growth and health. Bill

actually it had no help from the 2nd unit, the hall doors are closed at night because the tstat is right there for the rear unit. it will falsely think it is wramer/cooler than it is inthe bedrooms due to reading the temps for the front of the house, so we close the doors. the HP is 1/2 ton over sized, had to do it for cooling needs. we stay at or over 100 from mid July to late August so i would rather have a little extra cooling power then. evne so i had to stick a window unit in to help out during early summer. then we found out they OVER charged the unit in late August. of course, it cooled back into the low 90's right before they checked it so i still have no clue how well it will handle the 100 degree days. but it handles the 18 degree nights well!

Your plant looks great and I love your view. That's awful about you son's luggage. I've had my luggage misplaced many times but it's always shown up within a day or two. Hopefully his will also.

Plumeria are rarely available where I live (Washington, DC area) and I have to go through Ebay or mail order nurseries too. I've only seen one local nursery that's carried them and they were 15' landscape specimens.

Your plumie is beautiful, and the background is spectacular.I was in England a few years ago in Dec. it was freezing and wet but I loved it anyway. Took a train thru the countryside. If I come back for a visit I'm dropping in to see your gorgeous view.

I too am looking beyond your beautiful plumie, to see what England might look like, (show more) have never been there.

On celedine, they call it the common. Personally I don't like that title. I wanted that plant very much, is one of the more fragrant, blooms well, grows well, and finally got one and am so proud of it. not common, but a beautifu plumeria plant..yours is gorgeous.

Hi Karen, I would be more than pleased to show you some more of our garden and the surrounds, but can you/someone help me? I have managed to work out how to post individual pix using Photobucket, and have helped others to do the same, but now I am stuck!
I have seen on here other types of links to batches of pix...with a heading something like....'here is a link that might be useful' (I can't find a thread using this at the moment to get the exact wording, so this is a guess)as I suspect posting several of my pictures directly onto this forum would not really be not correct?? Any suggestions out there?
Thanks for all the nice comments, and also thanks to John for his kind thought of slicing his precious cutting in half for me!! I am still awaiting the arrival of our son to see if the said rucksack and its contents has been re-united with him. More on that later!

Hi Greenclaws,
The "here's a link that might be useful" box is directly beneath the one where you type your main message. It's titled "optional Link URL:" You just put in the address to your web page or where ever you have your photos stored. Below that where it says "name of link", you just call it what you will. Hope that helps you out.

Thanks again John, presume I just put the pix I want to link to in an album and copy the web page address, anyway will try that out and see what happens tomorrow after work (sometime) as off to bed now, its 11.25pm and we have to be up at 4am to drive to Manchester to pick son up at 6am, yawn! Still no news of the absent rucksack/cutting.

Hi everyone, just a message to tell you the AWOL cutting has arrived safe and sound in the zip off portion of sons rucksack (it arrived here yesterday in its own taxi...9 days after it was last seen at LA)unfortunately, the 85 litre main rucksack was nowhere to be seen and is still lost in space somewhere!
The cutting is un-named but is a mid-pink colour, and now takes pride of place on top of the tropical fish tank as that is currently the warmest spot I can find...hopefuly it will decide to put some roots down there.
I was asked by KarenB, to show some more pictures from home, but I realise I need a proper web page to link onto them? So, I have used my photobucket account for this, so hope it works! Here goes folks.
