Couldn't help but reply Lauri, I'm sitting here laughing my you know what off cause you're ready to chop down the tree and tear down the house so the plumie will have a better home! I think you have this "disease" even worse than I do. Maybe we should start a ~Plumeria Anonymous~ group, you can be president and I will be vice president!

Soooo....Votes please, should I move it, or just leave it well enough alone. It is growing so nicely, however in a number of years might be a bit overwelming there. And if I do move it, how is the best way to deal with the roots and not upset them?

It looks like the poor plumeria is holding that OTHER tree up anyhow. If it ain't a plumeria it's the OTHER tree!

But seriously, I think it looks good there, but what the heck do I know. If it starts getting to big, you can cut off all the branches and send them to all your new plumie friends....

The main question is how much sun does it get. Look in the morning, noon and afternoon and notice the amout of sun on the plant. Next is what side of the house is it on. If on the north, your house shadow will cause a problem. Next, what state and where in the state do you live. This gives us information that can better answer your question, or as John indicated, just rip all those useless plants out and the tree and plant your plumie forest because as you get addicted they will drive you to claim all land available and your neighbors if you can. Well it is in the front of our house and gets a nice long morning sun. And actually doing quite well, better that all the rest actually. So I've seen these huge plummie trees and not sure if that is a good place for it, since they do grow quite large. I wasn't aware of that when I got it. I'm thinking of a place where I have another small one planted that I might dig up and send to a friend (yet another question, what's the best way to send a rooted cutting?) and maybe planting that larger one there. So, now the question is turning into, what is the safest way to move a well established plummie?

The rootball in diameter is about one third the height of the plant which decreases as you get over 10'. A small plant like yours, you would come out a foot from the stem and stomp your shovel one length straight down. Circle around the plant. Now come out from these cuts about three fourth a shovel blade length and make a cut at an angle to the bottom of your original cuts. Remove that dirt. Now continuing at that angle, cut under the plant going around the plant until your cuts meet in the center. DO NOT PRY THE PLANT UP.
Lift your plant into a plastic cement mixing tray or a big tub, and drag it to the new location. I always recommend making a raised bed of about 1-2' and putting a volcano mound in the middle with the stem coming out the top. This give great drainage and you can fill with supersoil and pumice or cactus mix with some gravel on the survace to prevent erosion. Remember, they start out slowly but after 6 years they are spreading out more than growing up. It is hard to keep a healthy plant in a diameter of 10' so plan accordingly. also a large plant pole (I use tree poles from HD) allows you to tie the stem to keep it somewhat straight and to tie and pull up branches that want to flop for a year until they harden enough to support the weight. This way you can keep the plants tall and narrow rather that wide and bushy.

Tdog I'm so jealous of your plumies, they're just gorgeous! I so wish that I was in a warmer zone. If I was I'd probably be attracted to plants that needed a cold period. lol I can't win!

That sidewalk does look inviting only it belongs to my neighbor. I need the lawn to get to the gate to the backyard which is a jungle. Also I cannot move in on the north side of my yard which is my wife's butterfly habitat (she raises them so she needs plants to pluck to feed catapillers.) and the new puppy (C-dog) needs a place to run, pee and put her resting pen, and my wife needs a chunk of lawn to put her chair on so she can relax, read and listen to her ipod. So there is one spot open I am planning a coup to seize. I also noticed that my friend Jim has a empty backyard that is just growing weeds-hum? What deal can I make. It is enough to drive you nuts, except I think i already am. Bill
