Finally some blooms in Virginia

Some are just starting to bloom and others have inflos just forming, so more waiting on those. All of these were kept in my garage over winter and seemed to have survived the cold (down to 40 degrees in there a few times).

Hello Everyone!!! I hear you Dave!!!!! The weather has been awful with all this rain and cool nights we have been having. My son and I Just finished bringing outside all of the trees from the house and most of the ones that were in the greenhouse. It's time to get them outside for the season!! It's a lot of work.. But you know this.. Ugh ... lots of inflos are appearing on my trees as well and I believe that it's going to be an exciting season.. We just need the heat and a little help from the plumeria gods!! Gorgeous pictures of your trees from last season., I'm sure you will have even more beauties soon!!! We extended the planter box beside the pool where I plunged some of my trees last year, So I'll be able to do the same for about Twenty more trees In the planter box .. Still can't believe hubby agreed to this .. Lol. But I'm so thankful !! Hi Mona!! Soooooo nice to see you!!! Sounds like you have a great list of inflos too!! I just have this feeling that those of us that have been waiting for years on some of our varieties to bloom will finally be rewarded!! We all know what patience is.. Especially those of us here in the Virgina, North Carolina areas.. I have had some bud drop on my Fantasia. It's still has a nice huge inflo, but I think it developed to early to really show its true beauty.. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!! Please post some pictures so we can see your babies!!! Can you believe I purchased a lot of two 4-pad cuttings in each of 6 colors (fuschia, orange, peach, red, yellow, pink) on eBay about 5 years ago for just $5.99? That was 12 cuttings and an amazing deal from a great guy out in Florida. The plants are still going strong and I've even given away some. I moved them here with me from NYC. They used to bloom there 2-3 times during the cool season! We are well, Crenda. Just so happens we are experiencing an island-wide power outage as of 11:15 this morning. I hope it's not another long-term ordeal. While I have you, check out my adenium blooms on that forum under "Blooms from Seeds," where we're comparing what we bought and expected with what we actually got. It's really interesting. I have one supposed yellow seed that gave me one red bloom and one yellow. Adeniums are really not true to parent. This one was supposed to be yellow with stripes. Be well!! Maria Elena

Marica- I live in the woods, but not where there are bears! And when I first put this stuff in my pots something had definitely been digging in them overnight. It wasn’t bad and was probably a raccoon or a squirrel. I would not be using it if bears were close by! What fertilizer do you use?

OK Sherry: I've written it in my book. Stephanie Returns. I loved it last year and I love it this year. The veining in the petals is what makes this extra special for me. We will see what space I have for it next year......Purple Maze is another beauty. I'm afraid though it wouldn't look like that in our heat.....Lovely form on Spectral Elegance, and I also like the pinky peach color on your noid.....Sorry you missed spring. We did that last year - cold to heat - and I really didn't like it anymore then you do...........Maryl

Grow well? Yes, they grow quite well in our warm, humid summers.

Bloom well? Not necessarily! LOL! I think if I had a greenhouse to keep them warmer in winter, they would bloom much better and more consistently.

I would say regardless of your zone...they are doing awesome!

Thanks Mary Jane, the Miami Rose blooms pretty well for me, but it does get tall. It's over 8 feet now. Gotta cut it back this Fall.

Those are really gorgeous plumies! How long did you
have to wait to get them to bloom? I live in Zone 6 of
WV(west side). Did you start them out as cuttings or
seedlings? I am trying to get some seedlings to bloom.
Do you have any tips for us on the eastern part of the
US?

Hi Shelia,

Most of mine were grown from cuttings that I rooted (some named varieties, some generic). Just a few were already-rooted plants when I got them.

None that I have started from seed are blooming yet. I imagine they could take 3-5 years before they bloom (for my zone).

Tips? Yes -- patience, patience, patience, warmth, humidity, good soil, lots of sun, large pots, fertilizer, a warm place to winter them over, and did I say patience?

Dave they are beautiful. I especially like the Miami Rose. I have 2 that should be opening soon and a few more that are a ways off.
