need brom for hanging basket in full sun
Comments (3)Neoregelia "Fireball" will take full sun, as will a lot of its hybrids, like "Eoz", "Zoe", "Rosy Fireball", variegated "Fireball", "Fireball" x ampullacea, Neo. "Pepper", "Fireball" x lilliputiana, etc. These are "small growing" broms, minis, mot don't get over 6" tall/8" spread, and they are all stoloniferous, so they drape and hang and spread and look GREAT out of a hanging basket... Even better, I have some to trade!!!! Email me. Others that take full sun are the Neophytums, but they have a totally different growth habit, shape and size. They are really colorful, tending toward burgundy and bright red. But they are big full rosettes, even if the leaves are very thin, and they don't really do the basket effect the right way. Something else might be Billbergias...the more sun they get, the more spotted and colorful..."Hallelulah", "Pink Champagne", "Fascinator"...there are a hundred or more really cool ones...I grow all these in full sun here in Gainesville, where, in summer, it actually gets HOTTER than in zone 10 So FL due to our land locked, interior, heat settling climate. No breeze from the ocean, only from those almost daily afternoon thunderstorms from the convergence zone, and our humidity is killer, 85%+ every day from May thru November...See MoreTrachelospermum: hanging basket-able?
Comments (10)That's Pink Jasmine, Tressa, or sometimes called Chinese Jasmine (Jasminum polyanthum). But again, it also likes to vine more than trail, so you'd constantly be fighting its nature to want to grow upwards and along your hanging basket chains. And it is VERY prolific. Smells wonderful, but very vigorous plant, at least for us here in the coastal S. California climate. I considered it for my arbor/patio cover, but my landscaper and I decided against it due to it tending to look ratty and scraggly during a large part of the season. If you can get to it to prune, it's not bad, but I'm not inclined to climb up 10 feet to the top of my patio cover to clean it up :-) Patty S....See MoreHow to Grow Full Beautiful Hanging Baskets
Comments (19)Great tunies Pudge! Love the colour. My mixed containers that I grew from seed are starting to look really nice. I nuked one with too much Miracle gro though, I must have put it in twice. And my beautiful fuchsia got covered in concrete brick sawing dust when we were getting our new patio and died instantly. I washed it off within a couple of hours and it was already dead. It must have been alkaline or something, I have never seen any plant go from thriving to dead so instantly....See MoreGood hanging basket plant for full sun Atlanta
Comments (5)I have the same question and really, there's not much that won't fry unless you, water 3 times a day, have a huge hanging basket and/or use moisture crystals. My basket is only 12"-14" and it's one of those metal and coir types. I 've had it in storage for several years because it was a bit too small to go all day without watering twice. But I'm going to line it with plastic (with a few drainage holes ) and fill it with a bullet proof plant. Probably scaveola...does anyone know off hand which portulaca varieties stay open all day? I haven't bought any in years but I might this year. I was also considering pelagorium and some trailing vinca. These baskets are really gorgeous filled with all kinds of annuals stuck into the basket from all angles, including the bottom and sides. But they weigh a ton! I've had to hang mine from very study tree branches to get enough support....See Moremylu
