some will take longer for whatever reason. I'd give them another 90 days to germinate. I'd check them every few hours so you'll know exactly when they germinate. LOL. just kidding. patience. I've had seeds of palms take over 6 months to germinate.

wow, six months, Hopefully 90 days or less will be what my seeds need. Wonder what is so different about the one Fortuni seed that already did sprout.

True there must be entirely too many potential variables affecting the seeds, and maybe that might prevent others from feeling confident; as if they just might know some advice, which could hold the "golden key," and which promises to offer instant turn around for my sluggish seeds.

Did you remove the hard black outer part of the seed? if not you may well have to be patient, removing this speeds up germination alot. But trachies can take at least 6 months, i have had some seeds from the same batch sprout 8 months apart so don't give up just yet.

I would suggest an increase in temperature. It makes a BIG difference with palm seed germination--especially in mid-December (88F-94F. should do it).

I trying to germinate alot of palms using the baggie method, like you. I have a ton of baggies, filling up a corner of my room. Most of the seeds were planted back in the beginning of June, and the first ones (T. wagnerianus) have begun to germinated about a week ago. From what I understand, most palms (apart from Sabal and Washingtonia) can take over a year to germinate. Anyway, good luck with your seeds!

I have read that Fortuni Windmill palm seeds do not sprout well with bottom heat. Was that information wrong?

A thermostate in the room ranges from 74 to 80 depending on how much cooking I have done for the day. Also when checking the seeds, I notice that in the area around the top of the refrigerator, where I am keeping the seeds, the area feels noticably even more warm.

Fr8train, I certainly hope that my seeds do not take longer than 6 months to sprout. A year seems pretty long and seems to present more opportunity for some fungi or molds to begin affecting the seeds.

Guess I should be happy that at least one of my windmill palm seeds sprouted early enough for it to begin growing during the winter. I have been able to keep the window blind open all the time, since the winter sun is so low in the sky.

Hopefully by next spring and summer the sprout will be a little more hardy and have grown enough so that I can experiment, without harming it, just to see how much sun it can take, or how far from the window the sprout will need to be moved at that time of year when the angle of the sun will be so much more direct.

Putting them on the water heater works well and I put a towel over them to keep them warm.
