Definately wrong this time

I know I was wrong to think my Chiang mai rainbow was incorrectly named but this is supposed to be a strong red plumeria called Daeng Mang mee. I have grown it in heat and light and with the best will in the world it couldn't turn bright red could it?

Any ideas what it could be? I believe it to be a Thai variety. It has almost no perfume.

It doesn't look like it would turn red but it's a pretty bloom with the pink and orange. Did you buy this from one of the sellers in Thailand? Just curious because I've heard that many of the Thai sellers plants are incorrectly labeled.

Hello Karyn, I didn't buy directly from Thailand as it is illegal for me to do so but I imported it from a legal company in Belgium from whom I can buy. Only one of three that have flowered for me has proved to be correct. Last year I had a wrongly named one,then my Chaiang Mai rainbow did come good but now this one cannot possibly be correct. All from the same seller. I bought them as rooted named cuttings some 6yrs ago. I have others from the same source which haven't yet flowered. I know the company deals legally with Thailand. The only consolation is none are the same and are very pretty but I paid over Â£30 each so I'm beginning to think the so called named (unless you can see them in flower) are just as much of a lottery as seedlings!

Depending on how hot it is right now for you they may sulk for a bit but will eventually decide to grow. Pruning often stimulates roses into putting out new growth. So unless they are grafted and you cut the grafts off, which it doesn't sound at all like you did, they should be just fine! Keep them watered and maybe a shot of fertilizer and you'll have new blooms in no time!

You might want to ask this question in the real lawn forum rather than a construction forum. I just accidentally saw this link. All northern grasses should be seeded in the late summer to early fall. ALL OF THEM. Spring is a terrible time to seed, but not the worst. Now is the worst time. Because of your location you'd have better luck in July than now. Fall is best because that gives the new roots time to develop and resist the summer heat. It is also best because crabgrass and the other summer annual weeds are not germinating. If you are going to seed I strongly suggest you visit the lawn forum for advice on how to prepare the soil. Whatever you do, do not rototill or add more topsoil. Any problems with your soil can be fixed from the surface. Sod will work any day of the year unless there is snow on the ground. It's more expensive but it's an instant lawn. Starting a new lawn does not take that much more water than maintaining an established lawn. It seems like it, though, because of the timing. New sod or seed should be moistened 3x per day for about 5 minutes just to keep it moist and not soggy. Do that until you get 80% germination; then start backing off on the frequency and watering longer. An established lawn in the more coastal parts of MA should be watered deeply about once every 2 weeks in the 80 degree temps. flowers at wrong time?

my Manderine tree is 8 years old . for 5 years it flowered late summer ,cropped mid winter ,nice and sweet . than for the last 3 years it flowered in the spring some fruit would wither in the small size . some would grow large, than wither, in the extreme heat we have here in Australia 45 C , 110 F . its planted in the ground this whole time i have owned the plant. thanks for your response

I doubt you will have any long-term damage, and there's nothing you can do at this point to minimize any possible damage. Just leave the plants alone and let them be instead of trying too hard to fix things and possibly causing worse damage. The worst that could happen is that the pruning will stimulate new growth which then will freeze and die. If it happens, just wait until the proper time to prune in late winter/early spring and then prune off the damaged wood. In the future, research first before you prune because different plants have different needs. There are some plants that only bloom and produce on old wood, for example, so if you prune those at the wrong time, then you're pruning off your spring/summer blooms in the fall or winter and your plants will skip blooming that spring/summer. There are other plants that bloom and produce best on new wood, so you want to prune those at the right time to stimulate blooming and fruiting in the right kind of weather. It is so much better to research first and avoid doing damage in the first place, and if that is the main thing you learn from this poorly-timed pruning, then you've gained some valuable knowledge.

Unless you have high heat, some of those just will not color up. I hae a nice red one bloom very pale pink in the winter; real red/pink in summer. How much heat did yours get? How about night temps?

By my max. min. guage the temperature was around 90-100 in the greenhouse during most days even on rainy days which we have had a lot of but it's been humid and down to 60-65 at night. I don't think this could possibly turn the deep red it was supposed to be. I mean it's supposed to be very dark red not just a pink red.

I think I've finally identified it as Chompoo paan which should have been the one in flower last year which turned out to be Daeng Udon!!!!! after much image searching.
