Thats alot of plams. If I bought 10% of the plams on that list my wife would leave me. hummmmmmm. On second thought, Where did you get them?

As you probably already know, most of these are rare to very rare. If it were anyone but you with this list asking here, I'd be worried about these palms. Fortunately you have your greenhouse, and a knack for growing things.

If these were mine, I'd have invested in "An Encyclopedia of Cultivated Palms" by R. Riffle, and read up on them before buying, but it's not too late to study up. There are books specifically on Thai palms, palms of Madagascar, and on Chamaedoreas which might be useful. If you are more of a web reader, there's the PACSOA site, the IPS site, junglemusic, plantapalm, and your own PACSOF to search for information.

Several of these are described as "difficult" -- and that means even for very experienced palm growers. Having bought these, you will have a chance to learn about and contribute to the somewhat limited knowledge of the cultivation of these palms, so take lots of notes!!

I chose these palms specifically BECAUSE they are mostly rare. Some are classified as "exceedingly rare". I have already perused almost all of the sites you list on the web. I know that some of them are supposedly difficult...that's okay. The data I am REALLY after is specifically, speed of growth and ultimate height of some. The ones I have the LEAST data about are:

Calyptrocalyx polyphyllus, stenoschista and sp. Yamutumune
Licuala filiformis, parviflora
Phoenicophorum borsigianum
Pinanga curranii, riparia and sp. Borneo

These will all be containerized for quite a while so will be mobile as far as lighting position is concerned.

Allagoptera arenaria - short clumping palm related to Butia and Syagrus
Arenga caudata - dwarfish Arenga, more tropical
Calyptrocalyx pachystachys - only have one, most Calyptrocalyx have the same culture (shade, water, humidity)

" " micholtzii - mottled
" " polyphyllus - mottles
" " sp. Awa
" " stenoschista - pinnate or entire leaf forms
" " sp. Yamutumune - looks like stenoschista to me
Chamaedorea adscendens - You know Chams, they like shade and whatnot.

Chuniophoenix nana - understory fan palm of China, treat it like Serenoa repens.

Dypsis cabadae - like lutescens in culture

" lanceolata - same as lutescens, but more shade
" minuta - ankle biter
" pembana - like lutescens
" pinnatifrons - slow and wimpy
" pulchella - ankle biter
Geonoma longevaginata - these don't do well in our environs - like a Cham but like cooler air.
Hydriastele dransfieldii - hot, tropical, fast
Iguanura piahensis - hot tropical, understory and slower growing like Licuala
" wallichiana - same as above
" wallichiana var major - same
Licuala cordata - have fun.....very slow, very beautiful, rather hard.
" filiformis - true dwarf Licuala from Borneo, treat like orbicularis, mapu, etc.
" parviflora - Like Licuala spinosa, will grow taller but has narrower leaflets
" poonsakii - don't know much, named after a curator at Nong Nooch (I think?)
Lytocaryum hoehnei - understory Pygmy Date looking plant, never grown these to be honest
Marojejya insignis - awesome, huge, slow, love acidic wet swampy areas
Masoala kona - same as Marojejya, they are related
Phoenicophorium borsigianum - Ultratropical, keep hot and wet, shade until bigger
Pholidostachys pulchra - understory Chamish palm from Northern South America. Low light high water.
Pinanga curranii - ?
" riparia - ?
" sp. Borneo - ???

One last thought-- if you haven't already done it, join your local palm society and go to the meetings/outings. There are many experienced growers who never get on the web, but will be happy to share their growing tips with you. Some people just don't do the internet thing, like you don't do the phone thing, but WOW can they grow stuff! So you have to get the oral history, kind of like tribal elders passing down wisdom.
