Something ate the top of my pepper plant - when to plant a new on

Something ate the top of one of my cayanne plants. It's been in the ground about a week and a half and is maybe 6 inches high. This happened a few days ago and it seems to be doing ok - it was just the top little bit. My question is, if the plant is alive and well, other than missing the top, can I expect it to grow ok from here on out (I am adding some extra protection)? The alternative would be stopping by the farmer's market this weekend to pick up a new plant.
