How close will you be passing to WI? I'm interested in a larger Washingtonia Robusta....

I will have to go through iowa and a few others to colorado then down I think. Im saying this from memory with out a map in front of me. I would go lower states but I dont think arizona will let me through with a trailer full of palms.
Dbry1 my cousin lives in foothill ranch in orange. I take a highway dont know the number off hand south and theres plenty of nursey all along the mountains near and passed oceanside. And in san diego county in other areas too

When do you plan on making this trip? I'm still interested in a large Robusta or Queen Palm.

I am thinking around april. I am driving to san diego to pick up some palms yucca and agave and 2 large dicksonia antarctica in 48" box. I know for sure thats an easy palm to bring back

How much room will you have left over and what would you charge for bringing it back?

If you will be going down highway 99, i would suggest you make a stop at Nickel Palm Nursery. They are in Shafter (about half way between Fresno and Bakersfield). They carry a lot of palms, yuccas, agaves, aloes and cycads. Some that come to mind are Braheas, Dypsis Decipiens, Washingtonias, many different Phoenix, Sabals, Trachys, Copernicia, Jubaea, Chamaerops, Butia species, Parajubaea, Dasyliron...

Jimhardy If you want a 48" boxed D. Antarctica I have again no problem bringing you one back if they have it.(I maybe taking there last two not sure) These are WAY!!!! to heavy to move around on the side of the highway. There loaded with a forklift usually. Trachys are light being a couple hundred pounds each. I picked up 2 sabal palmettos and those were about 1500 lbs each. Thats why I am towing an extra long double axle trailer. Gas will be a B**ch.

I sent you a few text messages over the last few months (not sure if you can recieve em though) ............. i snuck a peak in your yard with the squad a few times that butia by the fence is HUGE!........now to the important stuff :)now you know you can't go on a palm buying trip and not bring something back for me LOL I am looking for another windmill since i think the one you brought back for me was from alabama? i think same place you are going back too possibly? looking for one with about 4 to 5 feet of trunk like yours. let me know if this is possible?

The trachy you brought back for me is doing great! Put out 7 fronds this summer plus about 6 inches of trunk! They seem to grow like weeds. trimmed off some fronds before i put it in its encloser for the winter. Plus my very first trachy that has been in the ground for 3 years now is doing good.....doesn't grow as fast as the bigger one but still putting fronds out. How are your trachy's and especially that butia? did you bring it inside because if i can remember when i took a peak it was in a pot?? i will give you a buzz after thanksgiving.....when are you planning on heading out of town?

thats great news that your palms growing fast. Thats the reason I get them because seeds take to long and are to fragile. The bigger palms can take a beating. I brought that monster in but next year it may go in the ground.

What's on your wish list? I know a lot of backyard palm growers here in the San Diego area, good prices. My brother has lots of Chambeyronia macrocarpa, kings, queens, small hobby inventory. He has a small greenhouse and outdoor growing area that he will have to vacate within a year, I can get him to quote you some prices in advance of your trip, if you are interested. For more inventory at a retail nursery, I recommend Kevin Weaver, KW Palms in Lake Elsinore. Really knows his palms, very favorable pricing, and plenty of cold hardy palms to choose from. Maybe you've been to his place on a previous trip?
