What's your fav Palm?

For me it depends where it's planted.

For beach front, the Coconut

For Pool Side, Ptychosperma Elegans and

Christmas palm.

Overal best palm or palms are:- Carpoxylon Macrosperma, Areca dwarf

Betal nut,

Street side planting, the Cuban Royal.

I love royals and coconut palms! I also like Sealing wax palms and licuala.

I don't see a problem with it, as long as it gets the proper care. Use a REALLY good quality soilless mix. ProMix by Premier is a great brand that I've had the best luck with this year (Home Depot carries it here in Michigan). The pot MUST have drainage (holes in the bottom). Also, long term, palms can get chlorosis due to trace element deficiencies, so I would use a fertilizer that supplies those PLUS a supplement according to the directions on the particular product you buy. Lady Palms like really evenly moist conditions, so you might want to invest in some kind of a little automatic timer and drip watering system if you're the kind of person who forgets to water or you're away from home a lot.

I use the words Stuffing and Dressing interchangeably whether stuffed into the bird or baked separately. I very seldom stuff a turkey or chicken anymore. I prefer the stuffing cooked separately. Here is another stuffing recipe that I make occasionally. Usually when I am boning out a whole turkey or chicken. This is one of Moe's favourites. I think I might make this for Thanksgiving dinner this year. Home Cookin Chapter: Recipes From Thibeault's Table Chicken - Deboned Stuffed Chicken ================================== Source: Pat Davis Cooking School, Grand Rapids, Michigan 1979 Note: A Boned out Three pound chicken will feed 6 nicely. 1 Three pound chicken or 4 Whole Chicken Breasts (not singles 3 cups Fresh Bread - Crumbled 1 small onion 1 clove garlic 1/4 pound of Sausage (I usually use one Italian Sausage) 1/4 pound of mushrooms 1 teaspoon dried thyme or 2 teaspoons of fresh 1 egg Butter Chicken Broth Salt and pepper to taste Sauce 1/2 cup White Wine 1 cup Chicken Broth 1 onion 2 small tomatoes 1 garlic clove . Bone out whole chicken or if using just the breasts bone the breasts but leave them whole. DO NOT REMOVE SKIN Save bones. Saute onion, and garlic in butter. Add sausage, (if using link take meat out of casing), add sliced mushrooms and saute. Season with thyme,salt and pepper and mix in coarsely crumbled bread. Add chicken broth to moisten. Add egg. Stuff chicken,(or breasts) and sew up with unwaxed dental floss. Preheat oven to 375ï¿½. Place bones in shallow roasting pan and place chicken on bones. Roast for 30 minutes and then add one coarsely chopped onion, and two coarsely chopped tomatoes,and the garlic clove to the pan. Pour in 1/2 cup of white wine and 1/2 cup of chicken broth. Chicken should sit above liquid resting on the bones. Continue roasting for another 30 to 45 minutes or until chicken is cooked. (note: Breasts take the less time) When cooked remove chicken to board to rest and remove bones from pan. Skim excess fat from pan juices add the remaining 1/2 cup of chicken broth and pour contents into blender. Puree to make sauce. To serve, Remove dental floss (comes out easy with one little pull). Slice breasts into nice rounds and place 3 or 4 slices on each plate. If using the whole chicken, also slice in to 1/2 inch slices and place one to two on each plate. Drizzle with sauce. IMO a kitchen needs to function first and I do not beleive a house from 1905 has to have a 1905 kitchen at all. Make the kitchen something you love unless of course you are going to sell in the next year, then I guess you need to think about the mysterious stranger that might buy your house.This kitchen is in a 1905 house where we actually added back the molding and wider baseboards . We were told by a couple of realtors we interviewed that the kichen would always be a turn off for buyers they were wrong sold in 11 days 10 yrs ago for above asking and just sold again in 2 days both times the kitchen sold the house.

Any annuals I plant in my beds must be colorful, self-sufficient and flower all season. No deadheading, no supplemental watering, no flopping and must be deer/rabbit resistant. That really narrows down my selection. I've found these four fit the requirements and use then liberally: angelonia, melampodium, spreading vinca, lantana, They're all annual in my zone 6. I use plenty of other annuals in pots on my deck where I can give them a little more care and attention (and keep the critters away).

For me it's royals and coconuts. They both scream "tropics" and they really grow fast in the right conditions.

Unlike most, I tend to be a Sabal Guy. I enjoy growing other native palms equally as well, such as Saw Palmettos and Needle Palms. As far as non native palms go, I like Euros, Windmills & Bizmarkias.

It's not that I don't like the more tropical palms, it's just that where I live, out in the country, they look a little odd with the surrounding landscapes and with the style of my home.

With Sabals, I like the Bermuda palm. I just love feather palms, helps create the feeling of tropics. I like the windmill palm, a real Tough guy, but tropical palms are number one for me. Dypsis Teddy Bear palm with it's White trunk, Royals the king of all palms. Satakentia a real gem, Dypsis Orange Crush with it's orange trunk, Dypsis Sant-Luci is a gem too. The Dypsis Decaryi ( Triangle Palm) great palm too. Coconuts Are king of the beach. I hear that the Hyophorbe (Bottle) I hear is great for beach front too. Might try it when we retire to Carribean.

The coconut palms are my favorite for the beach.My all around favorite palm family is the Phoenix palms,CIDP being the best looking one in that family.Next is the Butia palms.I like the pinnate palms better than the palmate palms,but there is not a lot of pinnate palms that will live here.I do like a few palmate palms like Bismarckia nobilis and Trachycarpus Princeps and a few others.

My most favorite is the king palm (Archonophoenix). It looks very pretty and tropical. Does pretty well in California for a crownshaft palm. Fast-growing. And they're self-cleaning. Can't wait for them to dominate over all the queen palms here. :)

i have so many favorites, Brahea's, phoenix, Trachycarpus, Livistona's! but i to am a Sabal lover. i think i have 8 or 9 different ones & still adding!

Trithrinax Campestris(blue needle palm) & Trithrinax Brasiliensis(brazilian needle palm) are other favs along with Bismarckias & Mexican fan palm. AHAIL i like them & want them all!

Very hard to pick a favorite. It really depends on the intended site. So, here are the categories and plants I'd like to nominate:

Best indoor palm: Rhapis palm (first prize); Kentia (second prize)

Best outdoor tropical: Cuban royal

Best cold hardy: Trachycarpus fortunei (palmate); Butia capitata (pinnate)

Best arid climate grower: Phoenix (pinnate category), Washintonia (palmate cat.)

Best indoor/outdoor containerized palm for a tropical effect: Queen palm (These guys make any yard a island oasis!!) Plus, they are quite cold hardy.

But, if I had to select only one, it would be the Trachycarpus. There is something about palms in the snow that is magical.

Pheonix dactyliphera v. Barhi (Barhee) when the fruit has just turned from yellow to soft and golden brown and is full of dibbs syrup --- oh my!
and for ornamental, Washingtonia Filifera with a full beard.

Well, i guess I'll read up on bontanical names, but here's my favorites so far because they're doing well for me! (All indoors for the winter, of course)
I have 2 queen palms, about 15 ft. tall, this will be their second winter inside, doing very well.
Maybe my fav. even though it's new, a small cat palm that I got at WalMart for five bucks, growing like a weed.
European fan palm, did great in the sun this summer.
2 majesty palms, 1 small and one about 7 ft., i personally think they make great houseplants.
I love them all and am looking forward to expanding.

I like them all, but I prefer to have a lot of Phoenix species in the yard. I enjoy growing coconuts palms as a hobby, as they don't do so well here.

I like them all but if I had to pick one it'd be a tie between the Washingtonias and the Sabal Palmetto.
