Are they still green?

I overwintered three Bhut plants, one died of unknown causes (slowly turned brown all the way up and down the main stem), one just kind of did nothing and the third refused to stop growing.

They are both outside now, the one that kept going has a lone pepper on it. The other one is still not doing much.

I've read that giving them some ferts can jump start them after being dormant, so this morning I watered it with some half strength MG 10-10-10.

When did you cut them back? Last Fall after the freeze or just recently?

You should see new growth within a week or two at the most. If it has been longer than that, it probably isn't coming back.

I see. From what you say they are dead, very much so. Well lets just say I hope I will have better luck next time.

I trimmed after the freeze. Actually had two that started to get new leaves in the garage mid winter, but alas they too have succumbed.

No need for the pic but will post it for others to learn or at least have a good laugh.

Dang dude, looks like they weren't watered all winter!!
I usually overwinter mine outside and only cut the side branches. I try not to cut anything that is not dry.

Not sure if the cause of the death was the freeze or something else, but remember if you are overwintering live plants in the garage that they need light, that's how they make their food, so unless they are by a window, months of virtually zero light in a garage is a recipe for death.

If I remember in October/November, I am going to run and experiment this winter. I am going to take a couple of my potted peppers and cut them back a bit at the end of the season and then leave them in my garage all winter. I have a couple small windows and the garage is unheated in Wisconsin with temps going below zero regularly. I won't expect much, but it would be interesting if one made it. Josh (Greenman) basically did that one winter by accident and his plant came back the next spring. Although I do not know how cold his garage gets and how much light the plant got.

The plant will surely not hold leaves anyway, so I don't know that they need a whole lot of light.
