what is wrong with my plumeria?

Good Morning ~ I was wondering if someone could tell me what is going on with my plumeria. I live in San Diego Ca where the weather has been a bit crazy. Low 70's with afternoon sun for a short period. Low's at night in the 40's.

The tips on some of the branches are black, the flowers have brown spots and are not opening all the way and they are falling off.

I have pictures to post, but not sure of how to post them. any help on that would be appreciated.

Welcome to June Gloom, San Diego's version of March weather. The plumies wake up when the weather warms, bud, and then abort the blooms when it turns cold again. Barely 65 here on the coast... at noon.

Black tips are another problem tho. Are there claws?

Yes there are claws on those black tips, tho they are small.

It doesn't really look like sunburn, does the plant have leaves? Is it rooted or are you trying to root it? Can you take a picture of the whole plant and show the tips too? Spider mites would not do this but if you have them they show signs on the tips mostly. The trunk looks shriveled in the 2nd photo - is it soft there or still pretty firm? You could try wiping the branches down with a little hydrogen peroxide and see if that takes it off - it could just be lichens or something topical.

Hi Joan, I would check for spider mites. Look closely they are probably all around the curled leaf and then in and around the others.. The other leaves look green and healthy so i wouldn't worry to much. How is the watering going? Not to wet is it? Let it dry between watering... The buyer 3 in 1 Insecticide is a great product. Make sure you spray on a cloudy day or keep the tree from direct sun after spraying... All over tree. Under leaves too... Good luck!! Laura

I am sure there are raccoon, possum & rat roaming around in our back yard at night but why just the same Plumeria and not the other ones. We have close to 10 Plumeria in our yard.

That appears to be thrip or mite damage. The plants should recover from it rather quickly. It sounds like you figured it out on your own but just didn't know the best approach to get rid of the crawling "brown thingies." Look for a Neem oil or a 3 in 1 type product to treat all surfaces of the plant including undersides of leaves. edit: forgot to add... this time of year you should expect leaves to yellow and fall off as the plant prepares for a dormancy period. Generally speaking the oldest leaves (or sometimes the most damaged leaves) yellow first.

It may just be slow to leaf out - claws are a good sign. Do you know which one it is? Celadine, Moragne, grower, color, etc?

I think it is a celadine ~ the tips are pretty black tho. the plant it self is doing good. It is black on only two branches.
I think we had it last year on one plant/branch but didn't know what it was.
Been looking for Green Light Fung away, no one seems to have it.
Thanks for your help.
