Do you mean you want to boil your peanuts the traditional way that southerners do? If so, see the directions in the sidebar at the link below. You'll find the sidebar on the left side of the page a few paragraphs down from the top. If your peanuts are freshly harvested, you'll go with the shorter cooking time. Peanuts that have been pulled and stored for a while require longing cooking.

If you mean that you want to boil and can them as a food preservation method, just Google the National Home Food Preservation Center and use the search box to find directions for canning peanuts or drying peanuts.

so, i didn't get many peanuts as i only planted 3 plants, but it looks like i'll have enough to play with and that's ok...still more than if i hadn't planted any at all :)

they're nasty! but i don't know what they are, and i don't want to kill them if they're beneficial. i know you all will know what i should do with them.

i think it is... but then i read that some white grubs turn into butterflies, and that some turn into june bugs. so i don't know whether to kill or not to kill.

Three plants is a good 'test' and now that you know they grow well for you, you can plant a lot more for next year. At one time and until very recently (when price supports were eliminated by Congress), peanuts were an important crop in our county. There are not very many peanut farmers left here now.

Grub worms (and I'm not sure if this is true in absolutely every single case) are the larvae of beetles. While many beetles are destructive, there are some ground beetles that are beneficial because they eat pest insects. Still, when I find grubs, I collect them in a bucket or cup while I'm digging or planting or whatever and feed them to my chickens. Here in Oklahoma, very often the grubs we find in our lawns or gardens are the larval form of May beetles, June bugs or Japanese beetles, all of which are garden pests.

Grubs also can be a problem because they attract moles, armadillos and skunks who dig up your yard and garden in order to find them and eat them.

The best organic solution I know of for grubs is Milky Spore Powder, but it has to be applied in August, I believe, in our climate. I applied it once in about 2000 or 2001 or maybe even 2002 and haven't had too much of a grub problem since. You'll never eliminate them completely, though, unless you fill your ground with chemicals and I refuse to do that. You actually can sustain a high number of grubs in your lawn or garden without seeing major damage, except for the animals that dig them up.

For me, June bugs are a huge pest, although they're easy to trap with alfalfa tea. They dive right into it and drown. I am (apparently) too far south and west to have much trouble with Japanese Beetles....I might see 3 a year. However, if you're in northeastern through central OK, you may find Japanese Beetles are a huge problem. In that case, do everything in your power to eliminate all the grubs you find....and you'll still probably have to hang a Japanese Beetle trap during beetle season.
