In order to jump start the cuttings, I've been water rooting with great success in an old aquarium set to 80. Once I see roots forming (not just nubs) I move it to very well draining media and put it on the warm stone patio. Roots are very fragile, and you don't want any unnecessary transplanting at this stage. Dust with some rooting hormone and watch it grow! ...diana

Thank you Karen and slave2thefur. I potted the cutting up on Sunday and have a bloom open yesterday! Today the sweet smell of coconut..... flower was very small, about 2". I hope that one root will be enough to sustain the plant. It has some leaves growing, so I hope everything will be ok. When should I start to fertilize?

I don't know when you do fertilize. I asked the same question on another thread, forgot from last year. I have one cutting that is growing leaves...too need that answer.

That looks a lot like my Kauka Wilder (shape wise, that is). Did you happen to get that from Matt (1stopaloha) on ebay?

It must be a challenging plumeria to get rooted, because mine has yet to push a leaf. It started to push claws out of all three branches and then each shot out an inflo. It has flowered and looks to be getting ready to flower again, but the darn thing doesn't have a single leaf!

I'm a little worried about it as its getting a bit "pruney", but if its flowering it can't be too unhappy, right?

My other six cuttings that I started at the same time (March) are all pushing out leaves like mad.

Hi Madame x, I got my cutting from my sister in Hawaii. She got it from the Swap meet/flea market there. I don't know who she bought it from. My cutting had one flower that lasted two days, but the plant was too weak and the buds turned black. I think one root was not enough to sustain it. It is growing some leaves and one of the flower stalks fell off. I am just happy that its still alive.
This is the first time I have grown plumeria and can't give you any real advice except that Kauka Wilder is hard to root! LOL Is yours rooted? Someone with more experience will have to help you with your question. I can't wait till next year when its stronger and can keep flowers.

I am in the same situation with cuttings, waiting since March, but not pushing out lots of leaves. good for you. On the inflo blooming, it may just be blooming from within the plant, with no roots. Still watch the water until leaves form. I have one plant that burned down at the base, all the way through..cut it off, had an inflo, planted it back into pearlite. You are not suppose to do this, suppose to let it dry.. but was afraid the inflo would die..soo took a chance. Is blooming tiny blooms. Obviously has no roots. so will wait until its hopefully ready to grow with roots and leaves come, to water and feed. Hope on mine yours too , make it. spray mist from a bottle on the plants every couple days..depending on how hot, more if hot..
