Safely planting water rooted cuttings

I have four cuttings that I am water rooting. One especially has wonderful looking roots on it and I am wanting to plant it. I am wondering the best and safest way as to not brake any of the roots. I am supposing just very very carefully filling in the soil around it in the pot, but think there might be a better way, because I think packing down the soil may brake roots. I have been using a mixture of peat moss, perlite, and potting soil for my plummies, but recently have read maybe the peat moss is not so good. Altho I had gotten that advice, to use peat moss from a good source, the woman who sells Marble Queens. I've noticed a lot of people mentioning cactus soil lately, so am on my way to get some. So, any advice on any of this would be oh so greatly appreciatied.

Thanks much, Lauri
