Dawn, that was an interesting article. Thanks for posting it. I had more butterflies in my back yard this year than ever before, because I planted more flowers and tended things better than before. I had quite a few yellow ones, which apparently are Sulphurs and I saw some Monarchs and others as well. It was really neat to go out in my back yard and have the butterflies all fluttering around me, like some commercial for allergy meds. LOL!

I had no idea that butterflies need salt! I'm sure I can rig up something for them.

I had been thinking about planting a passion vine. It reminds me of my grandmother, who had one growing on a trellis near the front door of her house. The flowers are so unique and tropical-looking, and I know if they grew well in Iola, KS, they should do well here also.

And zinnias are so colorful. I bought a butterfly bush a couple of weeks ago. --Ilene

I need to do some revision to my backyard butterfly garden because the once-tiny trees are growing and shading out some things, so I am going to plant passionvine on a nearby fence, and extend the bed out more into a sunny area and plant more stuff there for them.

I also want to overseed a pasture with wildflowers that will be blooming during their fall migration.

I've had a lot of sulphurs and monarchs and other butterflies the last couple of weeks.
