PSA Texas Plumeria Show Seabrook

Hi - does anyone know how to get information in advance about sellers that will be at the PSA show in Seabrook Texas in June? Also -- It is my understanding that varieties can be pre-purchased or reserved. I have never attended before. Any information about how to make the show most productive for a first -timer would be appreciated. I would be traveling from out of town to attend.

I have NOT heard of pre-purchasing/reserving for varieties before the sales. As the event is sponsored by the PSA, proceeds will go to supporting the society.

If you don't know the sellers personally, they're likely not to sell to you outside of the sale and would just tell you to buy from them at the event. I have to warn you that sellers do trade plants with each other before the doors open. Unless your wish list has common varieties, your chances of getting the rare ones is really up to luck.

Barbra, if you get a chance to forward Barbara's list, I'd appreciate it. I will definitely be going, though I have no particular reason other than getting together with other plumeria nuts :-) Mike, if only your trip was ten days later! The July sale is the 18th, I think. Let me know if you need me to track down something for you at the June sale. Emily, I've seen people grow huge ones with a wick dropped out of a regular pot and into a reservoir of water, but my industriousness stops with plumerias, it seems, LOL! If you change your mind about June, let me know. Looks like I'll be doing the pre-dawn solo drive again, and returning in the afternoon.

Yes, the official PSA website does not have the information but you can find it here: https://www.facebook.com/ThePlumeriaSocietyOfAmerica June 14 and July 26, both 9:30am-3pm. I have heard the available varieties will be posted in advance, but have not seen any information yet. Perhaps someone here has more of those details? Jen, I guess its not for a while. I have a vague recollection of one being during the middle of September. I was out of town for the Seabrook sale but Amanda went and bought me a Duke, JL Pink Pansy, Elizabeth Thornton and THorntons Mardi gras. Her dad got a Slaughter Pink and Thornton Lemondrop which I will help myself to a cutting at a future date. I am converting my in-laws into plumeria growers. I'm sure you saw the Corpus Christi 23 July plant sale on the PSA website. The details are nonexistant. If details get posted I might take a chance on it. At the least I'll come back with some blue crab to boil. Anyone on here part of the Plumeria Society of South Texas that can share details?

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!! I wanted to answer you about watering the cuttings... Cuttings love bottom heat. if you can find a place that you can place them on the hot concrete and keep them from rain, then you will have a good start!!! I see you are in a zone 8or 9? CA? This is a great because of the heat you should have already.. You can mist the cuttings every 7-10 days if you think they need some moisture on the cuttings. I see that you have them in a half soil half perlite? I would really keep an eye on not keping them wet or moist. They like to be dry when rooting. If you do see wrinkling, then mist them. cuttings are tricky when you first tart them, but honestly, they can be very easy too! Some of us are worry warts.. I believe a great lady who passed last year..KB was one that like to really fuss over her beloved tree, Some od us had read that we woukd tell he r to quit messing with them..LOL Shw was a wonderful lady!! she did a great job as well... I would try and protect the cutting...even if you just place them under a table in the patio during the summer months..They can tke 6-10 weeks to root. I place mine in the greehouse and placed them on the heat mat inside the black bins with the heatbg mat underneath I soaked the callased ends in b-1 and superthrive nd dipped into roottone and potted them upp. i do go aa lillte deeper than most. i jut like it have some stability in container. i also use rocks and other things tokep the stems from moving around, Bill has showns me of the soft items he cuts and places in his pots.. he cuts then to fit right into the containes and t works great!!! Way to go BILL!! as far as underwatering.. If you are unshure about underwateruing unrooted cuttings, go to Lowes and buy a cheap water meter nd ony water when it says that it is dry... or you could just use a dry swewer bambo stick and if it comes out clean and dry, then water. You will be surprised at the amount of water thr rooted ones will need and want. You will get the feel..dont worry!! Just be careful on the new cuttings.. If you can leave then somewhere that you can forget about them, they will do great..They dont like to be picked and pooked... LOL i always think of Bill when i give this speach!!! But he is sooooooooo right. Leave them be.. they can take 6-8=10 weeks to root. All of he rooted trees looks great!!! Good luck.. Laura

Plumtx, I replied to your email about this, too.

Most of the sellers are private collectors, but big nurseries like Florida Colors will also be there with a huge selection. Contact them if there's something specific you want, like a larger tree, and ask if you can pre-pay and have them bring it for you.

The PSA website is down for re-vamping but they're on Facebook. The first sale is June 14th in Seabrook, and the next is in July some time in Ft. Bend. Both are excellent and you should come with a list and a pull cart or huge bag. There aren't always shopping baskets available and they go fast.

Take a partner to watch your plants as you shop. People either accidentally or purposefully take plants out of baskets if they're not watched. Blooming plants go first.

Wherever you're coming from it's worth the trip! And a dangerous place to take your wallet.

The sellers at the PSA sale have till June 4 to send in the cultivars they will be selling so the list will be available between June 4 and 14, most likely about one week before the sale.

will these be the only two sales in texas? I tried to look at the psa website but couldn't bring up the sales section. Just got back from a trip to Emersons so I shouldn't be asking but.....

Yes, 2 sales.
Emerson can be dangerous can`t he?
unfortunately, or fortunately, he lives 2 blocks from my brother.

there are a lot of growers in this area, look on Craigslist Houston as some do sale from their homes and sometimes post there.

I am also looking to attend the psa sales this year...but may not be able to make it dependin on what shift I am working those weeks. I am looking to expand what I have and can't seem to find anyone in Montgomery County, Texas or on the north side of Houston. If you have any ideas or contact that would be great. I love going to Emerson's but I am only allowed to go once a year when we go to Galveston with the kids.
