Turning Red before Maturing

My Jalapeno is 2 years old and about 4' tall. It has never been without blossoms and peppers. This year something strange happened. It is so prolific that several peppers grow about the size of a garbanzo bean (kind of round) and a little spike appears at the end, turns red, and they are done. The spike is a sign that the growth has finished.

Others grow as they should, get a couple inches long, and those are the ones I want.

I'm thinking I should thin the peppers. Maybe the plant can't support all those things. Am I right?

Thanks!

Suzi

I may make some wine out of those little silly red ones. Blend em up and get some juice, and here we go....
