We have a cloud!!

Well the temps cooled down to 102 this afternoon and looked to the north and west and there they were in all their glory. Hugh clouds. We didn't get any rain but some of the towns around us did and I'm happy for them. Walking home from work I could feel the cooler air blowing and it was very welcome. The garden has pretty much shut down. I've still got a bunch of green but the tomatoes are hurting. They are dying out. I am shocked my squash is still going. I got about half a dozen tonite. Oh, and Ilene, I found the seive thing you were talking about and tried some blackberries. It does take the seeds out but you end up with a puree. I put some sugar and corn starch in and cooked it a little but it wouldn't set up enough to do much with. It would be great on ice cream. I think if I added more cornstarch it mite make a good pie. I also tried tomatoes and it works on the seeds too you just end up with tomatoe juice. So does anyone know any recipes for blackberry puree?

Gosh, make jam! But you'd need to use some you hadn't already thickened with corn starch. I've attached a link in case you've never done it before. I use about the same recipe, I do add a pat of margarine to keep the jam from foaming (no skimming required that way) and I have never had a jar of jam go bad. I do not use any jelling product because most fruits just don't need it, I don't care what they say. As near as I can tell, the only benefit to buying a jelling product is that you don't have to cook the jam as long, and if that's attractive to you, then that's the way to go. Myself, I feel a little "held hostage" by having to go and pay $2 for a jelling product in order to make a batch of jam from my own homegrown fruit (and veggies -- have you ever had tomato preserves??) The only exception to this is banana pineapple jam. Neither the banana or the pineapple have enough natural tartness to make a good jel.

Other uses for blackberry puree would be to thicken it a little more and use it as a filling for a cake; add to applesauce and serve chilled in bowls; thicken with more corn starch and serve in a bowl with a dollop of whipped cream; Serve sweetened over fresh strawberries for a mixed berry taste, etc.

Mesonet has increased our chances of getting rain tomorrow from 20% to 50%, and has just changed our chances of rain tonight from none to 30% (crossing fingers). DH heard on the weather channel that it's raining in KS and heading our way and it is looking kind of overcast. I'll take anything at this point. Just to not have the sun beating down is a plus. But we do need the rain. On Thursday, it's only going to get to 86 for the high and it's going to be 63 for the low that night??? I can't hardly believe that!!

Okie dokie y'all--I finally got 'er done---well, the totems. I have the flowers done but they still need their backs glued... I found a great spot to photograph each one--and each now has it's designated "stick" to display them in a yard. :-) AH, it feels so good to have them done. When I get them TOTALLY together I will have 13 of them stockpiled. Now, on to fine tuning all my drip system and timers and all connections..... Oh in the photos I posted a picture of my "office" where the computer is and our desk. Yep, it's a catch all but we get a lot of work done there! Last Saturday my hubby Todd planned a (we never really named it) "Being a Man" night with some older men we know from church for Sean since he just turned 16. We had a pleasant day up here on Vancouver Island. In our valley the sun was shining and all was right with the world. We get rain, rain and more rain up here, but just one day of sunshine makes life worth living! Supposed to be nice for a couple of days...then....well let's just say that if you are storing Noah's Ark, just send it up my way, LOL.

Do you have a little sample of the granite from the lot yours is from? That will give you a starting point. Take the granite piece to the paint store, and start there. I think you will like cloud white. (especially since your woodwork is that color!) I guess you should also try white dove. I'm sure you know by now that BM offers sample sizes for all colors now. Not just the "popular" ones in those little jars. If you do have the sample granite piece, it is nice to hold up the paint samples at home in your lighting with the granite. My thoughts on the lighting at the fabricator's place--at least both the paint sample and the granite will be in that icky light. You will be able to tell if it works. Maybe they can even move the slab for you to better light, maybe near a door. If for some reason you don't have a piece of granite, ask if they have one for you--maybe they just did a job using that granite and have a piece they can give you. I used to keep a piece of granite, a piece of my cork floor, all my paint swatches with me in a tote bag. My husband was always amazed I could whip out my bag and produce samples. I also had pictures of the stove and hood too. Hey, you never know....

Trim colors with BM Cloud Cover

@Kate Gaut - thank you. That’s a gorgeous combo. I like how that white reads on the trim. Here is an article I just found that shows BM Simply White (trim/millwork) with BM Cloud Cover (walls) & I think this is actually the exact look I’m going for. I attached the picture. https://www.jillianharris.com/5-easy-ways-update-walls/ I have seen Cloud Cover paired with a cool stark white and I think it makes the Cloud Cover read too creamy/peachy/yellow...which could also have been the lighting too. I read that Simply White is heavier (8.85) in the yellow hue family than the Cloud Cover which is 6.8 in the yellow hue family, so maybe it will balance and reduce the appearance of undertones. Simply White also has a higher LRV and Value, with a similar Chroma compared to so even though they have the same amount of “depth” the Simply White will still appear brighter and be more reflective, making it a perfect complement as a trim to the Cloud Cover. I think I’m going to go with Simply White...any commentary is welcome!! Hmmmm...anyone looking for a gallon of BM Chantilly Lace Regal Select semi-gloss in the Chicago area?? I’ve got an extra! :)

Hey Y'all,

It is ALMOST raining here. We have lots of low, dark clouds and a very fine mist-like moisture in the air. I wouldn't exactly call it rain......but in a year when only 16" of rain has fallen, this may be the closest thing to rain that we get. At least it is only 76 degrees here this morning....better than the 86 it has been at about the same time of day for the last 2 or 3 weeks.

Of course, even if real rain falls, it won't be enough to stop the wildfires because the grasses have already browned and withered, but every little bit of moisture helps.

I hope it rains all over Oklahoma today. Actually, I hope it pours down rain relentlessly. It probably won't, but if I am going to dream, I'm going to dream big.
