I'm inpressed that you got it to flower. I don't know what could be causing the browning if you are giving it plenty of water. I don't think it has to do with the sun. I have two potted S. Mners that are on a step that goes up to a door that leads into my house. They face due west, are in full sun, and sit about 3 feet in front of the back of my house. I have a brick house so I have no doubt that the air around them has been way over 100 the past few days. Is it possible it needs some fertalizer. If you can show a picture that would be great. feet is a nice size one.

Water it every day. I have a Sabal in a pot (well, a garbage can really) of pine bark and potting soil. It needs to be drenched daily. Apparently the mix drains too fast.

I think browning on the tips is normal quite frankly everyone i have ever seen spots up or browns on the tip
i wouldn't worry about it unless it starts taking over the fronds..

Brown tips are not something to worry about on a Sabal. Sabals are generally not perfect leaf-wise and will never be 100% green.

Even the newest leaf that is opening has some minor browing starting on the tips. I know these grow very slow, so maybe the newest leaf is just aging normally? I'll try to post pics later on today.

I think sabal minors can be sold short for growth rate. Especailly when they get older and have split fronds. New spears just shot up fast on my potted ones during our last hot stretch. Give them 7 hours of sun and mid 90s and they really quicken the pace.

Where did you get a 6ft Sabal Minor? I'd sure like to have 1 or 9. Do you mind my asking how much you paid for it?

But what I'd really like to get hold of is about a 6ft Sabal 'birmingham'. I really think that one could survive winters in my area with no protection once its established. Of course it would be 20 years before has a recognizable trunk.

Sorry it took me so long to get back. I had a busy weekend. It seems like the general census is that the browning is normal. Mike Jaramillo picked it up for me when he was in California. I only paid $150 for it, but the shipping is what really made it expensive. I'd love a 6 foot birmingham, but the rarity of a palm that size would make the cost of it astronomical.

Keep in mind sabals grow in swampy conditions often standing in water. Keep it very well watered. They can die when the soil is completely dried out. I have a few of mine near the house gutter, and they love it.

I water it every day, but my only concern with that is I'm afraid it will get root rot. I wonder if these palms are immune to it, seeing as they grow in swampy areas?

Don't be afraid at all about root rot. They will not get it and are adapted to the water. It's just the opposite from most plants...the water makes them grow! S. minor is different than any other palm or plant most gardeners are growing. I've explored this plant here in Arkansas and some grow directly in streams! Look at my pics:

Based on the size of the palm I have to believe that it was dug up not grown in a pot. It's probably just a case of stress due to that.

The palms where actually grown in there pots. I got them from California. They were totally rootbound and where stuck to the ground because of root growth.

Palmpunk my minors went through the same deal after I took them from the pot and put them in the ground.

OK...so what would cause 3 sabal minors to stall. I have three 4-5 year old minors that where recovering very well from transplant shock. Since the beginning of June growth has stopped. I keep them well watered and have them in my greenhouse that gets full, filtered light. My temps are constantly 90 degrees(+or-). These guys survived some really cold temps, but now the tops have just stop growing. Why?

Andy-It was definitely grown in pot. It was extremely rootbound when I pulled it out of the pot to the point where no dirt even fell away from the rootball and subterranean trunk, which was rock solid. Believe it or not that huge palm was growing in a 15 gallon pot. That's probably why it grew so huge, it had no other direction to grow than up.
Cali-wanna-b-maybe they're about to flower or maybe they need fertilizer. Try taking them out of the greenhouse and putting them in partial sun. Mine that are in partial sun seem to grow more than those in full sun, which have done almost nothing this year.
