Plz contrast Scarlet Runner Bean & Hyacinth Bean Vines
Comments (2)I am wondering the same exact question and also live in zone 7, but in NC USA. How do these 2 vines compare with each other? I intend to try Scarlet Runner Beans for the first time this year, and am an old hand at growing Hyacinth Bean each year. What is the big difference? I suppose the Scarlet Runners are edible, for one thing. Come on, let's get some answers. Perhaps the Hyacinth Beans are much more vigorous. I am guessing. The HB vines go absolutely crazy and the flower stalks are SO large and impressive! I cannot imagine any edible bean getting 20 feet long and having such large flower clusters. Perhaps that is the difference? Anyone else? It may be like comparing apples and oranges?...See MoreWanted:Malabar Spinach and Cluster Bean Seeds
Comments (5)Hi, I have them. I sent most of my seeds to someone in California, but I could send you a few from the ones I kept. I think one of my plants is going to seed too, but I'm not sure how it works with these plants. This was my first year with them. I hope I will eventually get seeds from the plant. I am also rooting some cuttings to grow from this coming year. The type I have is the alba type with green stems. I would be happy to get tomato or pepper seeds. If I get tomato, it should be a smaller type because it gets so hot here in the summer, I can't grow the large ones. I haven't done a trade on here before so I'm not sure how it works. I also have a Ferry Morse edamame to trade if anyone is interested in that. Cindy...See MoreCluster Beans

Comments (2)Anna, I have never heard of cluster beans, so found some pics. According to Wikipedia cluster beans, Cyamopsis tetragonolobus, are mostly grown in India, sown in July and harvested in October. Perhaps your soil has not yet warmed enough to suit these fascinating-looking beans? More cluster bean pics Sorry can't be more helpful....
