Mine are slow to wake up this year also maybe the cloudy weather and the cooler nights we are having isnt enough yet for faster growth?

It is going to start growing new branches or it could grow an inflo, but it looks like a new branch.

Certainly going outside into cool nights after being in a warm house slowed down some of my plants. Others not so much.

Interesting, Bill, I never thought of a new branch. This is the weirdest tip I've seen, just blank. There is a tiny claw just above where a leaf came off earlier, that does look like it might grow into another tip, but I didn't know they could branch without blooming.

Its happened to me but I have no idea what causes it. One tip did that to me last year and it regenerated from a leaf node. Ugly but not harmful.

Okay, I've got some new images. The tissue continues to expand in the center, but no sign of inflo (drats!). I think you guys are right about the new branches as a couple of old leaf nodes are sprouting new tiny leaves:

Beautiful rose color. Have been starving for some pictures of plumerias. All mine have woke up, putting on leaves and all my seedlings look really good. They just sort of dozed all winter long. What winter! My J105 seedling has something funny on it, there are several branches up and down the stalk. Don't know if they will continue. Clara

Clara, that's interesting that your J105 is also multi-branching on the trunk! Can you post pics of that?

I checked again this morning and the tip now has six nodes that are leafing out or swelling in preparation to leaf out. Crazy. I'd rather have an inflo but I guess more branches are better than just a single elongating trunk!

Love your J-105!!! Its so interesting to see how they "decide" to grow!! LOL...

My Pele still looks like it just has "nubs" from last years "meltdown" from the greenhouse. Im hoping to see some sign of new growth just like yours! (fingers crossed)

Jen, your adenium seedlings are so cute, and I love what you have them in! I feel a new purchase coming on. ;o)

Wendy, I think the adeniums will bloom faster from seed than plumerias, at least that's my hope.

The pots are from my mom, who was an avid bonsai grower for many years, and are just perfect for DRs. Those are decomposed granite pebbles over the top of the gritty mix to keep the mix from overflowing the tiny pots.

I count no fewer than six new branches trying to form, seven if you count another leaf node on the side producing a tiny leaf. Crazy.

And here it is a few days later:

Anyone with experience have an opinion about how many to keep? I was thinking three of those spread around the outside and the rest will need to be cut out as they get longer.

Nothing useful to offer, but, I love the coloration in your J-105! It reminds me of Swiss chard (especially in your most recent pic). Or baby beet greens. Lovely.

I would let all of the branches develop at least through this year. Then reevaluate at your spring pruning cycle. Seems like you have 5 more chances for an inflo next year than you did before.

I am sure the question is based on how many branches can a young seedling support and what will be the quality of each branch.

Another avenue of though would be what can be done to make the young seedling more capable of supporting all the branches? Maybe move it into a 5 gallon pot(or bigger...go big) and increase superthrive and fertilzer application to the max recommended dosage. In two or three more years that j105 will have a fantastic shape if all six branches fill out.

Greg, if you look to the left bottom of that last photo you'll see some Swiss chard there! I agree J105 has stunning foliage. How're your babies doing--any new pics to share?

K, thanks for the advice. That's kinda what I was thinking, too. This is a very thick grafted cutting of J105 that looks like it would support at least three branches. It's in a 3-gallon, I think. I'll keep fertilizing and see which look like the strongest shoots next spring before I cut and put it into a bigger pot.
