Is my Roebelenni flowering?

I noticed something on my large (2.5 feet of trunk 5 feet tall total)Roebelenni last week. On the trunk a few inches below where the spear is there seems to be forming a brownish "pouch" forming. It looks as though there are dark brown and dry little flowers in it. Sorry I can't post a picture. If they are flowers they are very dry. Could it be that the palm is flowering and if so is the dryness of the flowers normal?
thanx,
Andy
