I am far from being an expert as this is my first year growing from seed, but my problem with yellowing leaves seemed to be because I was overwatering. My wonderful wife bought be a moisture meter and wow its crazy how a little water goes a long way. Not for sure if that is your problem, but most definately was mine. I cut the water way back and new growth looks great. Also gave them a little bit of reduced formula earthworm casting tea just in case it was nitrogen deficency

ok thanks gardenkiller. Well i dont know if its water for me because when i dont water and it gets to dry then the leaves shrivl up so i have to water. do you think maybe thats to hot for them or something? I also fertilized them with my poop and fish fert. just incase it was a N deficiency. what do you think John?

Yellow seedling leaves often means too much water/poor drainage. Or pH imbalance, too much fertilizer etc etc etc. Your seedlings do not look bad to me.

I would quit fertilizing until a few more true leaves. Maybe flush the peat (?) pots with pure water a couple times and let drain well.

Really don't think you have much of a problem, but have been wrong before.

lol ok i repoted them because I dont think those pots give good drainage. well i only fertilized them one time and that was after they turned yellow and the leaves turned up cuz i thought that might be why. ok i hope not. so you dont think its to hot or anything? and they have 14 hrs of light over them? is that too much?

very sorry john. the "other john" was the only name that came to me when I was posting. while everyone here is helpful, there are a handful, you included, who go above and beyond the norm in your helpfulness and knowledge. thanks for jumping in with the help on this one and please understand i meant to disrespect, as i said, brain fart at the time, couldn't think of names.

He is too as bright as me and more patient with detailed advice. We have had this problem on other forums and that's why he became jt. And I agree with his advice in this case.

I follow the basics and if problems i ask .
1 promix or any fresh starting soil
2 proper growing trays that drain well
3 warm temp for the seed to germinate
4 NO FERTILIZER untill they are 3 to 4 inches tall.
now any one of these steps that are wrong could cause your problem.
I dont hit em with fert untill they have a strong root system .
good starting soil is free of last years problems (aphids) and it drains well so you dont get damping off.
the trays are good to use cause the drain well and when you need to transplant they are easy to work with.

ok i used some manure mixed with potting soil. ok so I wouldn't have fertilized the young seedlings that just sprouted. Oops! I dont have any aphids either thank god :).

I agree with jt and john. I also normally see that prob in overwatering on a small plant. Maybe it is the little pots you used. Look like they might be coir fiber or some such product that can hold moisture very well. Good seed starting mixes usually have enough nutrients for small seedlings and shouldn't need to fertilize till plant is much bigger. I don't until I transplant the plant into the pot it is going to be doing a significant amount of growing in, then I normally use fish emulsion/seaweed extract for most of the nutrients.

thanks ardnek, ok yeah i suspected that it could be those so im transplanting them into plastic black pots for now.

i noticed that a part of a leaf turned white. but that was before I repotted it and moved the light closer. what could have caused that?

what would cause the leaf to turn white?

could it be some splash back from fertilizer that caused a burn on the leaf? I thought somewhere in the back of my head that fertilizer burn can turn areas white.
anyone else have a idea here?
