Thanks! Apologies for incorrectly implying that I'd winter the whole plant indoors- that would be a pain indeed! Do you think Tenting will produce happier plants (aka more flowers) from now until Oct 8? There are a couple of Cafe au Lait Dahlias that are growing, but have no buds on them yet (I planted late). Do you think the added heat will help? They are all along the East facing wall of my brick garage. Thanks again. Pic of White Dahlia including pin sized holes some bug is making. I've seen rice-size & shaped black bugs and cucumber beetles on the flowers. Have yet to see an earwig in the entire garden (even went out with a flashlight at night).

It seems like there are two ways of keeping celery fresh. Celery gets limp or wilty from desiccation -- loss of moisture. As suggested above, one way is to store it in a tightly sealed foil wrap or other air tight container. This prevents or slows evaporation of water. Actually, it would be more accurate to say it prevents or slows transpiration, which is escape water from the stomata (leaf pores) of a plant. The other way is to keep the celery moist by spraying it with water and keeping it in a plastic bag or by storing it in a vase of water like a bouquet of flowers. This prevents drying by supplying water. Celery seems to have the ability to absorb water not just through the roots but also through other parts of the plant because celery which has started to wilt can be restored to crispness by this method. Stores used to have sprayers above the produce which turned on periodically. I don't think I have seen this lately. Have you? Jim

Sorry I didn't get back with you Brad. I hope you brought them in. I forgot to bring in the last of my iris, but iris do bloom quite well inside & can last a long time. I tend to keep my house just a bit cool, so that is probably why mine lasted so long. I threw out the last of them Friday. There were still some buds on them, but after the Thanksgiving todo, I was ready to let them go. If you don't have Daughter of Stars, Harvest of Memories, & earl of Essex, those are my best late bloomers. They are my most prolific multipliers too, guess that is because of the fall blooming.
