Pepper leaves are turning translucent and white! Help!

I do not know what this problem is. The leaves are turning white, papery-thin and into nothing. It's as if the inside of the leaf, the green healthy part, is disintegrating and just leaving the cell walls of the plant. It's NOT leaf miners, powdery mildew or any other insect/fungus that I know of. Any clues???

depends how many. it is normal for lower leaves to yellow and fall off as they age. Is there still growth on top of the plant? Does it otherwise look healthy? john

Thanks for the reply Jean! I did some serious hunting online last night and reached the conclusion it is probably scorched from the sun. I was thinking all the cold and water (and wind, though they were somewhat sheltered) probably caused the light green color and weakened them and then maybe even yesterday I really made it worse trying to help with the foliar spray a little too late in the morning! Every year I learn more about this stuff. Good thing tomatoes are tough cookies. :) Amy

Are you trying to harden them off? Are they close to a window and have you had freezing temps outside?

If you are trying to harden them off, you may have put them out for too long. If they get too much sunlight and they are not use to it, it can burn the leaves. However the leaves turn white.

If you still have then inside, and the leaves are touching the windows and you had freezing temperatures at night, you may have frozen the leaves.

Unfortunately, I've learned both of these things from experience.
