Can you post a pic of the whole palm? Tha pic is out of focus necrotic tissue, not possible to determine anything.

I can only relate my own experience with Majesty palms in my 6a/b area.

1. They will burn in full sun.
2. They will rot in extended cool, wet weather.
3. They will desicate in hot dry conditions.

Besides that, they are great.

try another palm,,,, I would never buy one of those,,for any reason,,,,a queen palm,,,spindle palm,,,ect would work much better in ur situation,,,,Bill

Thanks for the input. Yes, it is a bad pic from cell phone. Will try to post a better one tomorrow. We bought several since they were only $2.50 each at Lowe's a few weeks ago.

It's possible if they were selling them for only $2.50 the palms were already in decline before you bought them (from lack of care in the store).

I don't know why, but these things are mass-produced and sold everywhere as houseplants and potted plants, and they really aren't well-suited to be potted plants for long.

I have 1 in the ground but i consider it disposable.

Again...I've had mine for about 7 yrs now in a pot (well, repotted twice). It goes outside when frost is unlikely, and stays there until Nov. Sits underneath a maple tree on my little two tier patio deck. I water it frequently when it doesn't rain, and fertilize every so often. Plant was very inexpensive when I bought it, and is now large enough to start looking like a tree (roughly a foot of trunk). I must just be very lucky, because I don't get the criticism of these guys. They cost next to nothing, look tropical, and can easily be treated as annuals. I'd say yours are just too wet and cold.

Here's a better pic of the majesty. Maybe as trishmick has stated, it's suffering from too much cold and wet? Does bloodmeal help with deepening the rich green color I want?

Actually the palm looks a lot better than I expected. Just keep it well watered, and cut off the dead stuff. Do not over-fertilize. Do you get a lot of wind? it almost looks battered. How did you get them home?

Thanks for the response catkim ... we have had our unfair share of wind, cool, wet days and nights of late. I thought perhaps the brushing against the window screen and brick may account for some of the damage, but then - the outside looks the same in spots. We have others that are putting out new shoots and some have fully opened fine and healthy.
We got them home laid down in the back of my SUV.

I agree that you got palms that likely didn't receive optimal care while at the store nursery for several weeks.

Contrary to what others have said, I too agree that majesties can be effective potted plants if you do schedule repotting as they grow, up to a point that they can no longer be easily overwintered by bringing them through your patio doors, etc.

Majesties, in the heat of summer, LOVE water and humidity, and will acclimate to full sun with no problem. IN fact, if you are in a lower humidity region or have a bit more wind, it would be advantageous to have the basin under your containers to always be full of water. This will diminish tip browning.

I'm one that also enjoys Majesties. I grow them in the ground as annuals and also keep them year to year in pots. I think they're one of the cheapest plants to fill in the whole tropical look. And they grow faster than most palms. (So do my butia yet people talk about how slow they grow?!)

My majesties that are in ground enjoy full sun. Potted ones get afternoon shade. In a months time you'll probably be happy with your palm.
