Plumie flowers changed colour...dramatically??

Hello all....Having just been speaking with my Ozzie Aunt, she tells me one of her grandsons had a yellow white plumie around a metre high that flowered in their W.A. garden until recently. It then withered and was almost dead so they cut it down to good wood, moved it to a sunnier spot and fed and watered it and it sprouted again this year. Here's the weird bit..... it is now flowering and has strongly coloured pink rainbow coloured blooms?? Surely this couldn't be?? Have read that a plumies first flowers can be smaller or not true to their mature colour, but surely this is way off the mark!!

The only suggestion I offered was that there were/are 2 diferent plants growing close together and appeared as one. The yellow/white one flowered first and now the stronger rainbow one is in flower...can't think of any other possible explanation.

Any ideas folks...else I will have to go and check this one out personally!!

Gill.
