Hi Kasie,
Yes, has been 3 years we have been chatting and you have been so supportive to hold me together many times, when I almost gave up. I still am little nervous about how to water and take care of my plants each year. buttt. this is the first time I have watched dormacy, some yellowing and try and keep them warm, and not so wet and wind. have one dumb plant, dropping yellow leaves and thriving and growing new leaves..good heavens ha. Most of my plants are in full leaf, red claws and not going dormant, all on my patio.

Last year, just all went smoothly, yellow leaves and done, course then problems. Hope temps stay up. Most of my plants are in full leaf, and some growing new leaves! intersting when you grow plumies!!! thanks for being there for me. Are your plants ok????????

Hi Karen - yes, my plants are okay and thank you for asking. I have a lot of planting of large size plumies to do this year. I have a huge gopher problem here in the Riverside County, so I may just use the method of planting in pots and sink the pot into the soil a bit and to use the drip system for watering the rows just like the christmas tree farm near by. Oh, I'm not a seller by any mean, but just someone who got so nuts-so with these addictive plants. Let's keep our fingers and toes crossed for no "f" word(freeze).

Kasie, try feeding castor bean seeds (Ricinus communis) to your gophers. You should be able to gather millions of them within a short distance from your home. Just put a few seeds in any open air holes and when they snack on them, no more gophers!

Thanks a bunch for the suggestion Philip. Now all I have to do is keep a look out for castor plants in the neighborhood.

glad Philip could help you with the gopher problem, I have never had that one.

Are your plants inside or protected in this odd weather we are having now. heavy winds, rain and cool temps? I have all of my plants on my patio in cans, ones in the ground cannot protect. If I put my tarps up to protect them, will have too much water collected on the canopy.

Hi Karen - you are soooo lucky not to have gophers. The darn thing are so distructive. I've watched my roses, that's my other addiction, growing beautifully one day and totally gone by the next day. That's why I'm learning to root roses also.

As for the plumies, they're all outside. The ones in the rooting process are all in the overly crowded greenhouse. And the unplanted tree sized ones are in the shed and under the patio of the house next door.

Are you getting this wonderful rain too Karen? I really like this rain because it makes the ground easier to dig so I can do more planting. Happy growing Karenb.

Hi Kasie,
Lucky you to have a green house, never thought I would need one, normally warm temps. boy has that changed, 30's and 40's at night. have major tip damage on some, dam..In the ground, Aztec gold has crystalized, white now, expect tip damage.

I don't know what to do, most of my 5 gallon plants are in the house, in full leaf. those which have tip damage, leaves have fell off, do I treat them as dormant or? This rain and cool temps are causing such problems.

Hi Karen, so sorry to read your plumies have got frosted. Sounds like your temps have really taken a dive. Hope you can pull them round, best of luck.

Hi Karenb - my heart goes out to you. I remembered my friend had her plumies under a shade cloth and it did not get a bit of tip damage. However, the exposed ones in pots and in ground all had severe tip damage. The inground ones grew back many, many tips. And the potted ones had new growth also. I really keep my fingers crossed for all of us. Good luck Karenb.
