I took Fresno seeds last year from the ripe peppers I bought from a grocery store. They were milder than the Jalapenos, which was OK to me, since I was looking for something tasty and milder, which can be used in bigger quantities than the killer hot ones.

Unfortunately I did not save any seeds and now I have not seen the peppers in our local store.

I too picked up some form of fairly hot and tasty red and pointed pepper from the market last season and saved the seed to plant out this year. They were about the same size as the Jalapenos but with a pointed distal end. The problem is that no one in the store knew what type of pepper they were.....they simply referred to them as "hot". The seeds have germinated now and are showing quite vigorous growth, so we'll see what comes of them.

I can probably help you out with some Fresno seed. Mine too are from a the market. To me, the Fresno has a nice heat and a little more sweet than the Jalapeno, although I neve ate them green. The Fresno has more squared of shoulders and the flesh may be a little thinner than the Jal but still not a good drying pods.

Could they be Serrano Peppers ? My local grocery store sells Jalapeno's and red Serrano's. I managed to grow some from saved seeds one year. They seemed hotter than Jalapeno's to me.

I got my Fresno seeds from Seeds of Change a few years ago. The label says slightly hotter than a jalapeno. I can probably help a fellow Ontarian with some seeds if you're still looking.

They definitely weren't ripe serranos....totally different shape, broad squared off shoulders and quite pointy at the ends. They were about the same size as a Jalapeno but maybe even a little bigger around at the shoulder.
