Where can I get some Kaffir lime seeds?

Hi,

I.m from Mexico, I started to take thai cooking, but here in Mexico is very hard to find, if not impossible the kaffir lime leaves. I'm going to be in Dallas in September and i would really love to come back here with some seeds.

Does anyone know where I can buy some?

you can buy a small tree at vietnamese garden centers

I don't think the tree will survive the flight, I was thinking more like seeds to plant them here.

Chris, NICE job!!! Can you take a pic of the whole tree? Anirbn, My mom fell and hurt herself badly after she got out from a week in the hospital, so I totally forgot too. My bad. It started getting lighter in coloring..It was loosing it's vivid green look because the temps have gotten so cold. But I stuck it in the house and it seems to be coloring up again/. I will take a pic tomorrow..) I have been trying to grow it Bonsai style since I don't need it to be big and take up room. So it's pretty small..

Kaffir limes are one of the least cold hardy citruses. Unless you have protection from freezing and below freezing temperature to keep them warm above freezing temperature, they will not survive. It's leaves get damaged already when air temp are at 3 deg C if not gradually hardened off. It easily gets defoliated entirely in our zone every winter, and these are protected under the eaves of the roof overhangs with a west wall that serve as heat supply at night. Key limes are more cold hardy than Kaffir limes based on my own growing conditions here.

No need to graft. The purpose of grafting is to take a fruit age twig off a mature tree and attach it to a better root stock to get a good tree with strong disease resistant roots and get fruit sooner. Since your twig is a baby it will not fruit until it is a large tree with it's own root or another trees roots' Yes, you can take buds off your tree and graft them on a desirable root stock. If this tree is your's to keep I would be inclined to keep it on it's own roots. You can still take buds of it and graft to a rootstock of your choice. That is what I had planned to do with a meiwa kumquat and a poncirus trifoliata rootstock. I found it to be so difficult I will keep my tree on its own roots.

I think you should buy the seed and try to raise the kaffir lime tree.

But if you want to buy the kaffir lime leaves, it might survive the journey home 4 or 5 days.

One of the tip is to wrap the kaffir leaves with old newspaper.

Kusu, I've missed this thread since I haven't visited here for awhile. Looks like I missed your trip to Dallas back in September.

I'm in Houston and I have a small tree that had fruits this year. The fruits fell off and for some reason, I haven't thrown out the fruits. I just placed them on this table in the patio.

If you still need the seeds, please send me an e-mail with your mailing address. I'll be glad to send the seeds to you. Don't worry about the cost. Please put GardenWeb on the subject; otherwise, it'd go to the spam mailbox.

I too would love to have a little tree. Thein, can you please tell me where there is a vietnamese garden center in the DFW area. I tried googling it and didnt find anything. Thanks!

Does anyone know where to get thornless kaffir seeds? I saw some in Thailand and once at a local grocery store in Washington state.

Hi natalie, I just saw this post. Am looking to plant kaffir lime tree indoor since i live in nyc and it will not survive outdoors. If you still have some seed to spare, I would be very indebted to you. thanks
