Is this fungus or viral infection on the leaves

I have noticed that some lower leaves on an old wall climer shrubs has yellow spots and some strange fungus looking spots (shown on the image attached), and other leaves have small yellow spots within them. I am wondering what that is, if there is a natural way to treat them, or do I have to chop it down altogether?

Thanks alot for any helpful hints and suggestions:)

The large tan blotch is sunburn from looong ago.
Tough to say what the other colors indicate.

- Any chance of telling us the name of the wall climber?
- Also, any chance of a picture of more of the climber which includes the lower leaves?

is this evergreen in Jordan???

your best bet for info.. is to get a full ID ...

it is .. IMHO .... hard to delineate whether an infection is the cause of the damage.. or the result of some previous damage.. that opened the leaf structure for a secondary infection ...

and refresh my memory.. are you above or below the equator ... what season are you in ...

Looks like a purple leaf plum (Prunus cerasifera) and with a good dose of black knot fungus, and shothole fungus/bacterial leaf spot. The only practical remedy is removal and replacement with something less likely to be afflicted with these problems. Prunus in general tend to be very problematic plants and the afflictions shown in the photos are only the tip of the iceberg of potential problems. You can treat for these issues but they tend to be programs that will need to be repetitive on an annual (or more often) basis as well as having limited impact. Both can be researched online or ask for assistance with your local extension office.

Athlete's foot is a fungus disease. A fungus needs a certain pH to grow. Changing the pH will destroy it. Apple cider vinegar Apple cider vinegar is probably the easiest remedy. Dab it on and let it dry. Natural vitamin A Vitamin A from fish liver oil prevents of relieves infection. One application is usually sufficient. Vitamin A + D can also be used, or just straight fish live oil, like cod liver oil. It isn't as strong and the application will have to be repeated. Wet clay If the infection is really severe, start with the #1 poison and infection antidote which is wet clay. Smear it on the affected areas, stick the foot in a plastic bag, put on a sock, and go to bed. The next morning, wash it off and repeat the next night if necessary. That will cure the acute infection. Then you continue with the vitamin A or cider vinegar. Just dab some on the affected areas. Raw garlic A slice of raw garlic will fight infection, but it will burn the skin if left on too long, so it is not the best remedy to leave on overnight. Black walnut, tree tea oil, and other herbal remedies Black walnut hull powder is supposed to be anti-fungal, but it is poisonous and many people get a rash from it. All other ingredients are too expensive and don't work any better than the inexpensive ones.

I wouldn't risk it. Otherwise you could try washing the roots, looking for bootlaces and pulling them off. But it would be hard to be sure of getting something with much root density at all completely clean.

Twice a week for 10 minutes is not enough for a cool season grass in the extreme heat. Having said that, it seems to work on your front lawn, so why is that? Are the sprinklers identical front and back? Same heads? Same number of heads per zone? Same apparent coverage? You might put out some tuna or cat food cans and collect water for the time your sprinklers run and see if you see any differences. Generally we talk about deep and infrequent watering, but we seldom talk about proper plant selections adapted to different areas. You live in an area of extremely extreme weather with winter time temps in the teens being not that unusual and summer temps above 100 not that unusual. I would tend to lean toward non traditional lawn grasses like wheatgrass, blue grama. These are considered to be prairie grasses, but they do very well in your conditions especially when they are seeded to be dense. They need much less water to survive. If you let them go long enough they will develop seed heads, so some amount of mowing is required. But again, it is less frequent than a typical lawn type grass needs. I think your yard is alive, and will improve after the summer heat breaks. It will be better next year after another year of root growth. Still for long term life it will need much more care than a prairie grass type lawn.

This "vine or ivy" climber has been in our garden before we moved. Here is another picture, I can't find the name of it, but I think it is a common garden vine that covers walls and fences. I have noticed that it produced small berry like fruits.

I don't know, I think my only bet at this point is to prune and remove all these diseased leaves and keep an eye on it over spring when new leaves come out! Not sure if I should fertilize these shrubs.

You may be seeing a nutrient deficiency rather then a disease. If Jordan does not have an Agricultural support service such as the Cooperative Extension Service in the USA you may well just be guessing, forever.

no plant holds its leaves forever. ...

the pic above.. presuming its a current pic .... the outer .. newer leaves look just fine.. including vigorous new lime green shoots ...

all the damaged ones.. SEEM to tend to be interior ...

if so ... well what problem can there be.. but age.. if the outer all look fine ... if it were disease .. wouldnt the outer leaves show such??? .. and they look a healthy green.. so what deficiency can there be???

and therefore.. if it were me... i would jsut water it ... i personally NEVER fertilize a stressed plant ... but if its growing with vigor.. what does it need???? .. of course.. a LITTLE of this or that.. fert.-wise.. shouldn't hurt ...

Thank you, I think your right about the age thing since there are new healthy growths. Perhaps I will just trim off the old interior leaves and hopefully fertilize it mildly in the spring.

Thanks for the patience though, I am kinda new at large scale gardening :)

Hi and welcome to Gardenweb!

Your vine could be mature Hedera helix, or one of the other Hederas. Doubtful any pest would kill it, but you may have pests there that are not here.

i wouldnt bother picking off all the old leaves.. once you establish that there is not problem ... usually they fall off in spring by themselves.. as the new growth activates ...

but if you want the exercise.. fresh air.. and sunshine.. i could think of a lot of other less enjoyable projects.. besides.. you might find some remnant of the culprit ... and ID is the best source of info ....

Ken, Zesty is in the country Jordan. I was saying there may be pests of ivy there that aren't in the US. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. (But yes, the tiny plants have gone to my head!)

so i was suggesting transitory/migratory pests .. meaning a young pest feasted.. and moved on in adult form.. perhaps ...

and you suggested regional .. something we might not think of ...
