Gabriell, I saw those when I was trying to figure out what to do with them. It seems like it was last year at some point and I saved the idea and the books just in case I felt like doing it sometime. I'm just sure I learned about it on GardenWeb; most likely on the junk forum. Amazing what people see when they look at objects. Wish I had that gene! I'd even give up 1/2 of my energy gene for it.

Interesting, promethean. My seedin onions are already growing out in the cold. Lastyear (Jan 09) I planted these very small seed onions. Obviously they wintered. In the spring time some of them flowered(mostly red ones) but most did not. I actually collected some seeds from those. I think seed onions were bigger than 3/16", maybe good 1/4". So that tells me that biggers seed onions might get confused. Nice to know. I have planted some seed onions this past December, some two weeks ago and I will plant some more next week. This way I will have a rough experiment to find out which timing does better. ALL I CAN SAY IS THIS; INTERNET IS GREAT. I WONDER HOW AND WHAT DID THE GARDENERS DO BEFORE INTERNET!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone ! I am quite flabber-gasted at the number for people who took the time to welcome me and say a few words. Jeri - I do indeed feel very lucky to have Mel's Heritage. It was my first visit to the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden and by then I had read enough about Mel Hulse (from some of your posts, on HelpMeFind and various articles) to make me feel sad that I would never know him. So, how could I resist when I found a rose bearing his name for sale that day? Gean - don't count yourself out from my thanks so easily :-) Many are the useful notes I have made in my book based on your posts. Sherry - I can understand why you would want to keep the Marchesa inspite of her disposition to BS in your garden. I do hope she grows out of it ! I love your Maman Cochet climber and wish I had the space to grow her in my garden. Rosemeadow - yes, Mel's Heritage is one fantastic rose. I am glad you liked my first post; it was heartfelt. Anita - I do hope to make it to Sacramento this year for the Cemetary Open Garden. It would be wonderful to meet you (and others) in person. Holley - your plans about the arbor walk sound wonderful. My plants do well but I am absolutely challenged when it comes to knowing and planning what to plant next to what. And, on top of that, I am an unlucky plonker because none of my plonks work... Rosefolly - we are sort of neighbors, and I read with interest your posts to understand what grows and doesn't grow in this area. Sammy - Hm, no, I haven't been on the Pets forum before, but about 3 months ago I got a little and absolutely delightful dog, so you might see me there now. Miranda, your veggies look awesome! You are so lucky to have so much space. My garden looks so crowded trying to squeeze everything in. The cabbages and onions are absolutely beautiful. And those blueberries.... I never knew they were so pretty. They can pass for an ornamental! I know you are in for an incredible spring season. Keep showing us your goings on! Thanks. Anna
