Good job posting the links as the embedded pics didn't work for me. Every other day seems a bit much to me if they're in the ground, but it doesn't sound like you're drowning them either. The leaf loss in your pics looks pretty minimal/normal for a transplanted one, especially since they mostly seem to be the older fronds, but let's see what our other members say too. I'd just just make sure they get lightly dry between watering (mine get watered twice a week at this time of year) and then not to sweat the older fronds yellowing/browning, especially after a recent transplant. I know, I've seen a posting similar to this but I believe my circumstance may be a tad bit different. I purchased these two pygmy palms about a month & a half ago. Brought home but waited approx two weeks(still beautifully growing in pot) before replanting in ground. Now a month later this is what is happening: See pics here: http://sdrv.ms/16QRZAd FYI: Used a fertilizer/native soil mix as specified by nursery when planting. Here's my different circumstance. I did not use your typical mulch or pine straw. As you see in the pics, I used sandbox sand. I'm from Florida and know that palms grow just fine in sand but maybe there may be something to it, I dunno. This is Georgia and the palms in question have a zone rating for here. I did make sure of that. Also, if you notice in the last pic, the vine type plant in between the two palms is having the same effect. Leaves are starting to brown on edges. Any advice, yes?

I ordered a soil moisture meter, hopefully it will be accurate but I'm not sure. Until it gets here I'll dig beside it just to make sure I'm not over watering it. How big was your Pindo when you planted it? I've got plans to build something over it during the winter. The past few years it's always gotten as low as 15F on at least one night and I don't want it to be damaged when that happens.

Yeah, that's most likely too much watering, but I doubt that's the only thing causing the leaves to droop. When I first plant a tree, I water it roughly every 3 days with a deep watering for the first 3-4 weeks. Make sure the soil drains pretty fast if you're gonna do it every 3 days though (water shouldn't pool on the surface for more than 30-45 mins after the water is off). Then depending on the season, I cut back some. There might be more than 1 issue here though if it's already having problems. The soil might need some amending, or you planted it too deep. When I first started planting trees I didn't know that deep planting hurts trees as much as it does.. Now when I plant a new tree, I create a sort of "plateau" of higher ground around the tree (only 1-2 inches higher than the surrounding ground), and then with a berm around the plateau. Then on top of that, I plant it so the first root (or root crown) on the tree is barely visible above the ground. It's much better to err on the high side when you plant a tree (although you definitely don't want it too high either). If the root system is still pretty small, or if it's in a windy area you'll want to use stakes to keep it upright. If it is too deep, you can still easily fix it by replanting it. I fixed my White Sapote 1 month after I planted it. I could tell something was wrong the week after I planted it and now it's one of the faster growing trees in my yard. Sometimes you want to check if they added soil to the container it's in. I've seen nurseries add soil for whatever reason (probably to keep the tree upright) and then we thought the soil line of the container was where the soil line should be in the ground (and we were wrong).
