Thanks, Julie; with some plants there are so many things to consider that I don't mind, "It depends..." It is So helpful to have the contingencies explained. Replanting in the current pot may well work, since it doesn't seem to be "busting out." In any case, I will have a slightly larger pot on hand and will remember to watch for a need for more water. (I'm a "stick your little finger down the side of the pot into the media" tester.) And Orrin, thank you, for anticipating my next question; I was concerned about getting the paph crown too far into the medium and setting up a situation where rot might occur. I'm in a semi-arid region of the Sierra Nevada foothills--not quite so dry as Tucson, but close. I have no greenhouse, but so far, with daily light misting, the paph seems to be doing well. The new growths are 2", 2 3/4", 3", and an almost hidden "nubbin" (very apt). I suspect that the longer ones already have their feet in the medium, but will check for roots when repotting and put the rest of your shared wisdom to work in the process (good sphagnum, too, if needed). Boy!!!! Seems like a lot to go through for the 'greatest carefree perennial'? Why don't you just plant them in the ground where they are to grow? You can mulch them if it is really hot and make sure they don't dry out. Pots????? I can't imagine they would do better in pots than in the soil where they can stretch out and find the moisture and nutrients they need. Just my thoughts, but I wonder why everyone makes growing daylilies so difficult. I plant, hybridize, never ever water or fertilize (except what the chickens contribute as they wander through) and have lovely healthy gardens not overly bothered by pests of any nature. Sometimes I think people really want to make life a problem or perhaps some people just don't realize that it is supposed to be simple. Nature cares for its own as long as you don't spray or use synthetic fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides ETC. ETC. ETC. The good bugs will come if there is something to eat.

Thank you. I did not mean any harm; just that I have reasons for feeling the way that I do. I agree, garden nerd. I order (from a specialist grower) most of my sweet peas. I have also noticed that Thompson & Morgan are not quite as good as they used to be and I have heard that others have had the same experiences with germination problems. So far I have been able to say that this has not happened to me; but I do not like the catalogue as much as I used to. For some reason, they are not listing their goods like they used to, and too many pat little headlines are being used to market the goods. An example is their lathyrus section. There used to be many choices, now there are a few that are mixed and called names like "Bright and Breezy", or the like! I suppose this does not matter to those people who wish to grow a few vines in the garden, but for those of us who are nearly fanatic on them it can be frustrating. I like to know the correct varietal names of my peas. There are a few single varieties listed; but not near the choice that there was a few years ago. At any rate, I agree about Chiltern as well. Fine company; but T&M used to be quality as well. Also, I have noticed that due to so many restrictions the choices have gone down. We cannot get somniferum here anymore due to silly laws (U.S.)about opium availability; at least they will not send them to us in CA. Due to cost, most Unwin selections are not available, either. I used to order from Bolton's. Now since the family has had changes; they no longer market the way they used to and have merged with Unwin's in a way. I used to get the most charming letters from Mr Bolton himself and a beautiful catalogue full of the most tempting peas! England has always been famous for the best seed in the world. Now that the newer generation is coming up and taking over; this may not be so anymore. Apathy is now everywhere. I have seen the changes there as I have here in America. But you are correct, most of the best seed is not readily available to the home amateur.

Thanks for the welcome! I immediately went to check the soil pep when I read your comment. Luckily I didn't see any thing of what you describe, but I think I will screen it before making a big batch just in case. Thanks for the heads up! Also, the worm castings I am using is not what you see at the big box stores in the bag. This is literally 100% pure worm droppings with zero added compost or anything else. It's literally only a couple tablespoons per gallon. I'll attempt to post a picture of the bag from my phone. Therefore I'm still considering using peat in the mix. If anything, maybe I'll cut the compost ratio down to .5 making it a 3:1:1:.5 mixture. Will see.
