What to plant after potato plants

This is my first year garding and have done pretty good. I have about 15 potato plants that have yield about 50 pd's on new potatoes for us. I have had an ongoing issue with Colorado Potato bugs and have finally thrown in the towel. I plan on removing them in about a week and wonder if there is anthing else I can plant at this late date for a fall harvest. Thanks in advance!

You can plant almost anything you want for a fall harvest.

However, since CPBs have been a problem for you, I wouldn't advise planting potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants or peppers in this particular bed because the CPBs will just move on to these plants.

By the way, CPBs are easy to control with Bacillus thuringensis 'San Diego'. It is a bacteria that attacks ONLY Colorado Potato Beetles and a few other pesky beetles. It is an organic product and is OMRI-approved for use in Certified-Organic Gardens. Between the use of the Bt 'San Diego' strain, and hand-picking the CPBs, you can virtually eliminate them, and without poisoning your garden.

I've linked a previous post that lists planting dates for a fall harvest. With most fall crops, you can plant 2 to 4 weeks earlier than the date shown in the post except for the cool-season crops like turnips, spinach and lettuce, for example, that really, really NEED cooler weather.

To me, the hardest part of the fall garden is finding room for all the fall crops in the years when the spring garden is still producing well and it is time to plant for fall.

Don't worry about it. Your potatoes will *all* be diseased by the end of the season. It increases each year causing production to drop drastically. But it won't just come from other seed potatoes, it's all around. Your certified potatoes will get infected regardless. What I don't know is how fast the virus takes off and how much productivity you lose after each season of non-sterile seeds. Obviously, it's not bad during the first season. How bad after the second generation? Third? Fourth? I'd like to not buy seed potatoes every year. Maybe every other year would be good enough, but I guess I won't know 'til I try.

No, the soil will be fine for next year, just don't plant potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant or peppers in the same spot for 3 years. You can plant peas, beans, onions, corn, lettuce, etc there. The important thing to do is rotate. Google crop rotation for more info and sequencing.

i have talked to two different potato farmers and get two different opinions. one says the moisture in the potato will make the potato sprout and it does not need watered for ten days, but the water will not hurt them. the other says to water. both get good production. i have always watered. as for the water not hurting potatoes, i have a story. i had a good crop of potatoes. i dug some and they were nice and ripe but there had not been a frost and the skins were still soft. so i watered them good and was going to let them dry out. well 5 days later we had a monster rain storm and the field was so wet you would sink to your knees. them 5 days later the neighbor left the water gate open and turned the potato patch to mud again. then some kids opened all the gates on the ditch and mud again. when the grown dried enough to dig again there were not any potatoes. just rotten mush. Raspberries in coastal Sydney! Blackberries'll do reasonably well (I used to pick 'em at Oxford Falls) but berry vines in general need colder conditions than coastal Sydney to set fruit. For raspberries you'll need to be at least in the Blue Mountains or in the Southern Highlands. Stores, such as Bunnings, will sell them - and they also stock and sell blueberry bushes - but they don't and should carry a label giving their climatic requirements. B.
