Daylily, those are some good reasons to plant the potatoes. What you say was reinforced last night by a venerable old local gardener who told me if the tomatoes were blight free, and had only been growing in that spot for one year, the potatoes should be all right. Disease tends to take a number of years of same-crop to build up, he seemed to be saying. And he said growing tomatoes in a bed that had been growing potatoes would be worse. While doing some research on this I came across the idea of growing tomato plants IN potatoes - making a hole in the potato and inserting the tomato plant (if I read right), so as to get a simultaneous crop of both. Will have to find that link.

I've only heard it in the direction you know about. Tomatoes seem to get every disease and raspberries are highly sensitive to diseases so maybe that is why the main problem is planting raspberries where there were tomatoes, not the other way around. My guess is it is not as likely to be bad in the way you want to do it. If you had some dirt I would mound 6" of soil on the top so the tomatoes will mostly be above where the berries were anyway. You don't want to plant potatoes immediately after cutting. The rot too easily if you don't let the cut end dry. My husband cuts ours up and puts them in the garden shed for about a week. It is dark and dry in there. After that he plants them and we never have a problem with them sprouting after they are planted. I don't see a problem leaving them for longer

Potatoes prefer cooler growing conditions than most summer vegetable plants. It would have been better to grow them outdoors from the beginning. Also, store bought potatoes are not the best ones to start with. They may have been treated to slow down sprouting and could have been diseased. I started russet potatoes in outdoor containers at the beginning of April, and they are already over three feet tall and flowering. Ideally, they should have a couple months of cooler temperatures to form tubers before summer heat sets in. Also, they need loose soil that stays moist but never soggy. If you use compost, it must be mature and completely done to prevent scab. Now, they need full sun for 6 or more hours a day. You may still produce potatoes, so don't give up. Consider this a learning experience.
