Planning a buying trip to Florida? Check Craigslist first.

Many posters have asked where to buy palms in Florida and plan your vacations around a buying trip. There are dozens of palm nurseries within a 1 hour driving range of my home and I'm very familiar with current prices. All nurseries, especially palms, have suffered a drastic decline in sales due to the collapse of the Florida housing market since the summer of 2006. If you haven't priced palms since then, you're in for a pleasant shock. Many nurseries post on Craigslist to stimulate sales, with some drastic markdowns due to going out of business. Before planning a buying trip to Florida, always check Craigslist for posts from nurseries. Check the Farm and Garden section of the South Florida and Treasure Coast categories. If a nursery quotes a price that isn't 25% to 50% less than what would have been charged 3 years ago, you're at the wrong place. Here's some of the palms that I have bought in Florida from nurseries posting on CL:

Windmills $5

Ribbon palms $5

Eurofans $5

Bismarks $30

CIDP $25

Sylvestri $25

Alexanders $5

Old Man Palm $45
