Michigan Trachy update

I have a November picture and then some closeup of some leaves today. I noticed some splitting on all of the leaves. It's hard to tell but by the light the splitting is visible, It looks like 80% of its leaf surface has it.

When is a good time to let the palms out of protection? I'm thinking of removing the insulation at about april 10th and having structure and tarp for another couple weeks.

If you have trachys or sabal minors or needles they should be ok lol, thats a big SHOULD be. I would leave the enclosure next to the plam if it gets in the teens cover it up. Its 70 outside here right now I took the cover off of 3 of my 8 enclosures today and I have the boxes next to the palm just in case. I uncovered a Waggy and a sabal minor and a needle. Good luck!!

Palms look good guys,I removed my protection end of March last year and have been letting my palms adjust to direct sun basically whenever the temps are in the 40s or higher all winter,(which was not often Dec-Jan)I have also removed all the heat(x-mas lights)as we usually don't see much below 20F after March 10,the problem now is keeping them cool as yesterday was 71F and today should be at least mid 60s temps return to upper 30s and 40s middle of next week.
We are defintely getting closer to the time when they can be on their own again and its been really nice to work in the yard again,looking forward to everyone pics and ideas this spring,should be a great year!

I have some palms that i am trying out in protected locations, but no actual protection otherwise. Most are marginal here, but readily available at garden centers. Our microclimates are so complex here. Someone on the other side of town might be able to grow something that you have trouble with. Our low this winter was 29F for a bit before sunrise one day. We had a dozen or so frosty mornings and other than that we stayed around 35F. Majesty palm - outer half of fronds damaged, but already has 3 spears as of today and one opening up Foxtail- less hardy than supposed. Four large fronds completely fried, but opening a spear. I moved it to a more protected location with two-story walls on three sides and facing south. Dypsis Decipiens (manambe palm) - seedling, unprotected out in the open - no damage. Kentia Palm - No damage Flame Thrower- No damage King - slight damage I also have these, although these are given in our area: 6 Queens Phoenix Canariensis W. Robusta

If you have something to put over it to increase temps that will help. I use my little umbrella(whats left of them)greenhouses through the winter/early season,first for keeping rain out of the damaged palms and then for pop starting the Bananas (don't have any coming back from the ground this year)T.ferns etc. Trying to pop start the T.ferns now(-: If you do put something over it to warm it up,watch the moisture carefully,if it rots from here,it's done. Epic Especially after all the friggin Nor'easters you guys saw over winter! The weather patterns are pretty locked up just like they were over winter. You guys bake in heat and we drown in heavy rainfall and a tropical air-mass,we are in a similar warm air-mass here except that it flows straight out of the gulf of Mexico,as I mentioned yesterday,even though the sun was only out for 2 hours(or less) we still hit 91,with oppressive humidity. The interesting thing about this,is that there is still cool air lurking about poised to strike,you guys could see this pattern reload over and over or get hit by Canandian high pressure and not get out of the 70s. I guess we know which one of those scenarios is happening(-; Wish we could share some of this rain!

So Jim did you remove the enclosures this winter when the temps were up? Yes my problem is they enclosures with the sun out get VERY hot. Im debating on if I should remove the enclosures for the weekend.
